A Quilty Review

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

2007 was not a banner year for finishing projects. I discovered the joys of swaps, sampler quilts and block of the months. All this made for a great improvement on my piecing skills, but I didn’t really get much actually DONE. I’m very pleased I learned the secrets of half-square triangles and flying geese, so that made it all worth it. I’ve only been quilting for 3 1/2 years and am entirely self-taught, so it was good to nail down some of the basics.

So just what did I manage to finish? How about pictures!

I can’t believe that’s it! It certainly feels like I accomplished more than that. I did 16 blocks for the birthday block swap, 39 blocks for my Dear Jane quilt and several blocks for a block of the month club. I also almost finished my square top before I got so intimidated by the idea of quilting it that I quit.

Then, three days ago I started another quilt! This one is a Once Upon a Time quilt from The Modern Quilt Workshop. I have all 355 3 1/2″ blocks ready to go. I just need to figure out where the heck I’m going to lay them out and play with them.

Goal for 2008: Finish Once Upon a Time Quilt, BOM quilt, and square quilt. I bought all the fabric for the next round of LJ BOM but haven’t made a single block. Bad Carrie! I need to find a different project for that fabric, I’m afraid.
