Vacation Day 2

Brother's Pizza in Charles Town, WVA

We achieved escape velocity. I guess you knew that already. I just had to say it, since Mike was wearing the shirt. I’m only posting this picture because Erik looks cute. Mostly he does a weird face scrunchy thing when I take his picture and it isn’t as cute.

This was taken in Brothers Pizza in Charles Town, West Virginia. I’m only noting it so that if someone is searching for good food in Charles Town I can send them there. It’s in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Yummy pizza. Very clean. I’d go back.

Maybe I should post a picture from each of the places we’ve eaten. Wouldn’t that be thrilling? Our lunch today was interesting. I had chili that tasted like cinnamon and a potato pancake that was literally a pancake with potato in the middle. Very odd. I have no idea what I was expecting, but that wasn’t it.

I won’t, but you can check them out HERE if you want. We also have the obligatory Wal-Mart train ride and Carrie in the swimming pool pictures. We know how to party.

We went to the world’s smallest zoo this morning. If we hadn’t taken a train ride and played on the playground we would have been done in 20 minutes. I was glad I had warning that it was rinky-dink. Yikes! We may go to the zoo or safari out in Natural Bridge one of these days. Sources, are they better? Would you recommend one of them? I would link to my sources but I am not sure they want to be linked to this area.

After the zoo, we headed to downtown Roanoke and had a nice time checking out the huge farmer’s market and looking in the windows of all the cute little shops. I was dying to go in, but none of them looked 3 year old appropriate. It would not be fun to look at fancy little things in fancy little shops while yelling “STOP that! No touching! ONE! TWO!” The whole time. Maybe one day I’ll have to leave Erik and Mike someplace and go on my own.

We ended up in the science museum for a couple of hours. Erik loved it, especially the flight simulator. It didn’t seem to work particularly well. None of us could ever get airborne, but Erik thought he was flying and that’s the important thing.

In the cockpit

He also touched this weird underwater creature that basically looked like a big rock with a tail. I have no idea what it was. I didn’t get very close because there were big fish and you know how I feel about fish. Puke!

In real life news, I think I am going to be co-hosting a baby shower in September. At first I thought I was going to be hosting it alone, but I’m relieved that Dr. Saturn’s neighbor wants to help. I hope we can have it at the neighbor’s house. Dr. Saturn is even more opposed to cute than I am and doesn’t want any games. I was thinking of having people decorate onesies. We’ll see what my co-host has to say about that. The only baby shower I’ve ever been to was my own and I don’t think it was a typical shower. Is a shower usually just a bunch of old ladies sitting around a picnic table eating watermelon while you open up presents? I’m not complaining. I just don’t think it was typical.

Want to know something I really hate? When people spam your forum with an obvious advertisement then get melodramatic when people start telling them not to spam. What the hell, not-so-famous published author? If you can’t take the heat, read the rules. Don’t let the door hit you on the ass.

That made me feel better.

In not so great news, my grandma had an angioplasty today. She is not doing well and they don’t know what is going to happen next. The doctor’s say they’ll find out in the next 12-18 hours. Does that mean she is either going to die or not in that time frame? I think it does. She doesn’t do well with surgery and started bleeding out. Before surgery, though, she was yelling at the nurses in the OR, telling them how to prep her. Also, she keeps ripping out her IVs. I don’t know what they are going to do with her. I’m glad I’m on vacation and not keeping vigil in the hospital. There’s nothing I could do. I still feel guilty. It’s a hard thing.

I think my uncle is trying to get her house in his name so he can sell it out from under her and force her in a nursing home. That’s probably where she needs to be, at least for awhile, but he is going about it all wrong.

Maybe it’s a good thing we only have one kid. Hopefully he doesn’t try to shaft us when we’re old and gray.
