It was very exciting to leave Erik in the care of my mother and head off to the theatre alone. It would have been more exciting to have Mike along for the ride, but at least the whole venture only cost me $6 instead of the MD price of $90. Can’t beat that.
I am going to sound like such a geek, but it was surreal seeing the movie and being in the world of Hogwarts after spending the last couple of weeks in hell. I want to go back and see it again! I think it may very well be my favorite of the bunch now that the kids can act (or at least the director didn’t give Ron much to do so he didn’t annoy so much). I haven’t read the book in a very long time and don’t remember much, so I wasn’t aggravated by all the things I’m sure they changed. I was only aggravated by the large numbers of screaming babies and toddlers in attendance. I would be screaming too if I was a little kid at that movie! What the hell is wrong with parents?
Now I need to re-read all the books and re-watch all the movies. Is it true that the last movie will actually be two movies released six months apart? That would be awesome.
Other than that I’ve spent the day fending off Jody, my dad’s really drunk friend. He has been a fixture in the family since I was a little kid. He used to chase us around with a chain saw, take away our dolls, tie my sister to the tree with her pig tails, and so forth. In his youth he had no idea how upsetting he was. Today he is a little better, but he can still go too far. The problem? Braxton and Erik think it is hilarious and were beating the shit out of him with pool noodles. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Erik have so much fun in his life. I’m not impressed. Erik doesn’t need to learn how to be ornery, even though I fear it is in his nature.
I will say he is a sweet little boy. Jody went after me a few times, but I’ve long ago learned that the best defense is to not react at all. Erik freaked out and ran to me to “p-tect” me. Is he not a little doll? Of course, Jody was so drunk I didn’t need much protecting. At one point he got a little too wild with a hot pepper so I gave him a shove and he went flying. It was a teensy bit scary. The bastard gave Erik a hot pepper and told him it was like candy. He didn’t scream or anything, but he sure didn’t like it.
His presence attracted the slutty neighbor and her boyfriend. I swear they are trying to get him to have a threesome. The boyfriend was trying to french kiss him. Those people need to go away. They’re nasty. I don’t want to hear a bunch of sex talk in front of my son and my mother. At least Jody agrees with that sentiment. He pretended like he was sleeping until they left.
Isn’t it great to live in the ghetto?
Jojo, are you sure you want to go see your family? I’m so glad we got out. I will never understand how we managed to achieve escape velocity. I look around at all the people in this town and wonder how on earth they survive here. How can they stand it? When I was at the park yesterday I noticed that I was probably the oldest mother around by at least 10 years, if not 20. I feel so lucky to have escaped and found a way out of here with a good man. I can’t imagine what it would be like to want a man so badly that I was willing to settle for a drunk. When I was growing up I didn’t know there was such a thing as men who didn’t drink in excess every night.
Oh well. I guess life just is what it is.
Wasn’t that deep? Or not.

I felt exactly the same way about the new movie. I think it’s definitely better not to read the books again before the movie, because I couldn’t remember the book all that well and it didn’t bother me at all that it was (apparently) different.
I’ve heard the same thing about the last book being two movies. There’s no way they could jam all that action into two measly hours!

Yes – two movies for the price of one book!!! Glad to hear you like the movie – your review is one of the few I would trust. I assume they had to rearrange a number of things because they didn’t put the leadups to them in the last movie. I cope by developing the philisophy that the movie and the book are separate stories, just using the same characters.
