Still Sick
I’m sick. Still. The fever has been gone most of the day, but the sore throat is back with a vengeance and the coughing is starting to kick in. Thrilling.
I think Erik might be relapsing as well. We were watching literal lyric videos and he fell asleep on my lap. Not before making it very clear that Video Killed the Radio Star was his favorite.
Speaking of music and the boy, he’s been watching way too much Chicken Little since I got it from the library. It’s a pretty strange cartoon with lots of different plot elements. Basically it involves bullies, baseball, karaoke and alien invasions. Of course, Chicken Little has no mother. It’s a Disney movie after all.
Anyway, at the end of the movie two of the characters do karaoke to “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.” My dear, sweet, silly son has been trying to imitate them. He gets out his microphone (my fancy spare toilet paper roll holder that I haven’t been able to use as such since he learned to crawl) and busts out “Don’t go breaking my arm!”
I guess you had to be there. The kid loves music, but what kid doesn’t? I keep thinking I should sign him up for a class, but they are way too expensive for what you actually get out of them.
I was really hoping he would be able to go to his last gym class tomorrow evening, but it’s not looking good. I suppose I could go lay in the back closet on all the mats while they do their thing. I certainly won’t be doing any sort of exercise myself. Today I thought I was feeling a bit better so tried to be productive. I made curtains for Erik’s room from a duvet cover, then thought I was going to die. They look amazingly symmetrical for not using a single measuring device during construction.
There is sort of a major problem, though.
Or maybe two major problems.
I wanted curtains that would match his duvet cover so did what any rational person would do and just bought another duvet cover to cut up. In some ways it was super handy since half the seams were already sewed for me. I just had to cut the sucker in half and half the work was already done.
However, the cover is made of two different prints. And one of those prints is directional. And that direction did not play nicely with the idea of being cut in half the way I needed it to be cut in half to make the project work. I’m putting the wrong directional fabric facing out so no one will see it unless light comes through the window. Then whoever is in the room will see it because they can see right through the front fabric. I guess this is the kind of quality you get for $19.95 and an hour’s short work. I’ll take a picture after we get the hardware put up. Maybe I’ll have my new camera by that time!
Did I mention we’re getting a new camera? I’m so excited! I’ve been very unhappy with our camera almost since we bought it back in Dec. 2005. The pictures were never crisp and it never took indoor pictures well. I got the photo book from my mom’s trip and every single damned picture was blurry. I about exploded. These are our memories! I don’t want them to be blurry! I wasn’t drunk when they happened!
I looked up reviews of our camera just to see what people said and it got a big, fat F.
I made puppy dog eyes at Mike all day and finally convinced him we needed a new camera. I ordered it, then figured out that we could call it our anniversary present to each other. Aren’t I smrt? I ended up getting a Canon Powershot IS something or other. I read tons of reviews and a ton of people on Facebook recommended the Powershots, so here’s hoping my memories will once again be crystal clear. The old digital camera Mike gave me in 2001 took clearer pictures than our new one! And it only had 1.3 megapixels. Granted, you never knew if the prints would turn out pixelated or not and you certainly couldn’t enlarge them past 4×6, but when they turned out ok they were really ok.
And that’s about all the energy I have tonight. I’m ready to go to some Chinese doctor and have chicken feet stuck up my butt. Or maybe it would just be needles stuck in my spine? You know, as much as I love being poked with needles I’m surprised I haven’t tried acupuncture. My big fear is that I will get addicted to it and never want to stop. So why don’t I get a tattoo? Hmmmmmm. Maybe I need a tattoo. Of an Amish crocodile. Or a quilt block. Or Mike’s head. Yeah. I could get his head on my butt. Ohhhhh! I know! On my book forum they were discussing tattoos that made things in the bedroom a little more interesting. I can get a maze tattooed on my back so Mike has something to think about sometimes.
Maybe I’ll just stick with donating blood

Get well already, woman!!!! (hug) I’m sorry that you can’t shake this bug. And definitely don’t donate your plague-ridden blood to someone else….:)

I got a Canon Powershot for my classroom last year with my technology money last year. I. Love. It. Seriously considering buying one for me to use at home. I have pictures taken with it online if you want to see.
Feel better!
