Another Day, Another Ramble

I could have easily fallen asleep at 7:30 pm, but I had to stay up and watch LOST. Love that show. Love love love it. I’m so glad I stuck through the season three slog to get to the exciting pay dirt. Whoo-hoo!

What else?

I cleaned the house today. Cue the angels singing. Mike has been working insane hours and I think he takes the house elf with him. It was disgusting in here with Wasa crumbs all over the floor. I can’t stand stepping on crunchy stuff. I also did some sorting of things but so far all the freecycle people of the day have been flakes. Grrrrrr.

It was almost 70F out today, so we headed to the playground. Can you believe we were the only family there? Insane! There were plenty of high school kids playing basketball, but no little kids. I hate it when there aren’t any kids because then I have to play with the boy. Isn’t the whole point of the playground to give me a semi-break? I hate climbing up the slides and pretending I’m a polar bear. Why do I always have to be a polar bear? I tried to teach him the concept of hibernation, but he kept disturbing my cave.

Our painter says the house will be finished by the weekend, but so far he only has one room complete. Out of eight. The basement is done, the kitchen needs touch-ups, the dining room needs another coat, the living room has only had the primer put on part of it and the rest is untouched. And he never showed up to work today. He started the job last Thursday. Is he just a procrastinator and will put in a burst of energy when the deadline is here? I told him it has to be done before Feb. 20 so let’s hope he is just the procrastinating sort.

On a sugar-free note, I discovered that if you mix unsweetened cocoa in with your peanut butter and honey your chocolate cravings will be satisfied. I also discovered rooibos tea (recommended by Dawn in the form of Ruby Red Chai. Yummy! No caffeine, so my heart doesn’t have to run out of my chest.

Speaking of my heart running away, the window guy was scheduled to show up sometime today and I had Zumba today. What’s a girl to do? I hate waiting on people, especially at an empty house, so I went to Zumba. Mike called me at the most intense portion of the workout to let me know the window guy was on his way. Poor man couldn’t understand a word I said on the phone.

Not too worry. I was not rude and talking on the phone during Zumba. The music is so loud I couldn’t even hear it ring. I checked it after every song and when I saw a missed call I ran out of the room.

Funny story: I was checking the phone and found several text messages from the past few months. If you have tried to text me, please know that I’m not ignoring you. I am text-stupid. It is not a good way to try to communicate with me.

I can’t keep up with one narrative thread tonight. I can barely do paragraphs.

Anyway, back to the house. Erik refused to get out of the car. Then he got out of the car, but refused to go in the house. Then he kept begging to leave. I wish this move was over so we could stop confusing him. I think he’ll really like it once all our stuff is there. I hope.

The worst thing happened while we were there with the window guy. My stomach started cramping and I had to use the bathroom. It was HORRIBLE pain. I felt like I was going to throw up, but I never did, thank goodness. I had to keep Erik in the bathroom with me because there was paint and ladders and tools all over the house. He didn’t want to be in there. The paint fumes were overwhelming. There was some guy going in and out. It was fabulous, as you can well imagine.

We have one other house problem. Verizon is at it again. They have the WORST customer service in the history of the world. WORST.

The previous owners had Verizon and told us they were paying $100/month for a triple play. Not actually true, but that’s what they said at first. I called Verizon to check the pricing and they told me the previous owners never cancelled their account. I was very surprised, but tried to work it out with Verizon. No one could help me. I couldn’t set up an account until the other account was cancelled. They gave me a huge run-around and finally two hours later they said I could fax in the proof of purchase and our problem would be solved.

Mike didn’t want to fax it in because he was super busy today, so he had me call the previous owner and see if they could cancel it. It was probably good to do that anyway since they needed to know it wasn’t cancelled. I talked to the previous owner and she was beyond pissed. She said she’s spent well over 8 hours on the phone with them in the past two weeks trying to get their service cancelled. Suffice it to say, we won’t be going with Verizon. I better call Comcast back tomorrow and schedule a set-up. I hope I will be able to get an appointment for next Friday. I need my Battlestar!

Speaking of customer service, the manufacturers of the Tonka truck sent me a snippy e-mail about how the toy is safe and only intended for children ages 3 and up. They did say they would replace the truck, so that was nice. Why my friend would want another one in her house I do not know. I plan on replying with a snippy e-mail stating that my child is 3 and up. I also got a packet of information from the safety commission that I need to fill out and send back.

I guess that’s all I’ve got. Time for bed.
