Jet Lag City
I need to go to bed, but I’m not tired in the least. Funny, since I was yawning my way through the day, anticipating an early bed time. How am I going to get us up and ready for school by 9:30 tomorrow? Erik didn’t get out of bed until 10 this morning! He was asleep by 8:30 tonight, so I guess it will all work out. Except we’re supposed to be having a big storm, so we might not even have school.
I uploaded a bunch of pics to my Flickr account, but haven’t had time to caption them. You are welcome to look if you want. Someday I might post a few here, but I don’t know when. Erik was really clingy today and if I looked at the computer he jumped on my lap and wanted to play an Elmo game.
I forgot to mention the highlight of the trip (not). Erik saw a stuffed bear at the airport and had to have it. I figured it would be worth 20 minutes of quiet time so I bought it. I was wrong. It kept him busy for at least an hour. He normally looks confused when I ask him for the name of his stuffed animals, but this time he immediately knew what to call the bear.
Coochie.
Look at my Coochie, Mommy! My Coochie’s blue, Mommy! I love you, Coochie!
Ok.
So.
I’m guessing it comes from coochie-coochie-coo like you would say to a baby because they played “baby” all week.
However, when I hear the word coochie I think of something else entirely. It was really fun to have him sitting next to a young guy on the plane, talking about his coochie. The guy never spoke to us, but I could tell he was having trouble keeping from busting a gut a few times. The child is nothing, if not funny. When we walked in the house last night, the first words out of his mouth were “whoa! That’s a little tiny TV!” My parents have two giant TVs, so I guess our measly 27″ isn’t up to snuff for Dora viewing.
I am so lucky to have such a happy, friendly little guy. My nephew is a very shy, sensitive young man. He is so sweet and his rare smiles are beautiful, but they are hard to come by. I was shy myself, so I can relate to that, but I am so glad I don’t have to talk Erik into joining other children for games and stuff. On Saturday he went to a birthday party with my sister’s family (it was at a church so I didn’t think it would be too wild for him) and she was amazed by his social skills. He was first out of the van and was in the bouncy house before the other two kids could be coaxed in the door. I don’t know how we ended up with such a social butterfly, but it is really fun to watch. I’m his mother, so I know I’m completely biased, but he just glows when he’s around other children. I don’t know if it is his charm and beauty or if he is just really pale.
Anyway, I have to go to bed. I’m just so glad to be home! I really like my new haircut now that I’ve been able to do it in this climate with my own products. Klamath Falls and my hair hate each other so I didn’t know what it would really look like until I did it this afternoon. It’s cute! And chic! And I finally figured out the secret to shiny, fancy hair. You buy a product that says “shine” and spray it on your hair when you are done. I think I may be a real woman now. . . except I still don’t wear make-up.
