Happy Family

We’ve had a crazy weekend around here. I’ve had a sore throat and a period, which makes me a total joy to be around. The temperature suddenly dropped into jacket weather, which is GREAT when you have a sore throat. Joy joy!

We started the weekend off with the annual pumpkin fest out at a local farm. They have a pretty amazing set-up with all kinds of activities for the kids and lots of great photo ops. For the first time since Erik’s birth I forgot my freakin’ camera! Grrrrrr! I was so pissed off that I growled the whole time. Mike tried to convince me that it was possible to have fun without a camera, but I just kept thinking of all the photo ops that were passing me by.

After we got home, Mike went car shopping. I wanted to lay on the couch and die, but I knew I had to entertain the boy, so off we went to the park. I dug out my scarf to try to keep from breathing cold air, but Erik kept freaking out when I would put it over my mouth. “Mommy! I need to see you! Take that off!” He’d go up on the equipment, I’d sneak the scarf over my mouth, he’d slide back down to me and remove it from my face. It could be a very long winter.

Today we continued the car shopping theme. Mike wanted me to test drive the cars he was most interested in, so off we went. If we were going to base it on the salesperson, we’d have a Mazda 3 right now. Instead, I guess we are going to base it on crazy things like price. We’ve narrowed it down to a Toyota Corrola and the Mazda 3. We’ll see what kind of finagling Mike can do later this week. This car will just be a commuter car to get Mike back and forth from work since he will no longer be on the train route. He should have a much shorter commute, so I’m happy! I sincerely hope I never have reason to sit in the backseat of his new commuter car because they are tiny. I’ll stick with my old Saturn any day.

Finally, we rounded out the day with a trip to the mountain for family photos. Our friends are in the same position we are–no family around to help with things. We both needed Christmas card photos so decided to share our photo expertise with each other.

Here’s the best we could do:

Happy Family

As soon as Erik heard the word “picture” he flipped out. I thought he was going to run right over those rocks and kill himself. Unfortunately someone else had that same idea* and the place suddenly filled up with ambulances, rescue workers and fire trucks. We have no idea what happened, but I hope who ever was hurt has been rescued and is resting comfortably now.

I really need to get to bed. I think I better take a sleeping pill or two because my brain is going a hundred miles an hour. I have a new project in store for you all, so watch out! I’ll give you a little hint: go and find a few of your favorite recipes because you’re going to need to e-mail them to me in a few days.

*I would assume it wasn’t the exact same idea. I would assume that a person thought they were having fun climbing the rocks and fell down the sheer cliff face or something. Hopefully it wasn’t a preschooler running from a camera.
