Loose Ends
People, mainly Heather and Ellen have been asking me questions that I haven’t answered yet. Here’s my answers as far as I can remember. Any other questions? Feel free to ask.
What about a rutabaga? The other day we were listening to Laurie Berkner sing about Victor Vito and his Tabasco on a rutabaga. Mike asked me what the heck a rutabaga is, so I thought for a second and then told him it was like a potato, only very red. Then a couple of seconds later I had to confess that I totally made that up. I had no idea what a rutabaga was.
Last night I looked it up. Irony of ironies, a rutabaga is a Swedish turnip! He should have been explaining the whole rutabaga concept to me, instead of me making up totally untrue facts.
How much do I pay for my gym membership? I pay $32/month for my membership, plus I buy a childcare pass each month for $20. I could also buy a punch card or just pay per visit, but I’m dedicated enough that the pass makes the most sense. The classes are all included. I also got a month of free training when I first joined and could have a one training session a month if I wanted. It was really nice to have someone show me how to use the machines back when I was machining it. I find Body Pump 100000000 times more effective than the machine work, though, so have no inclination to use the trainer option.
What kind of jeans don’t look five years old? I ended up with standard issue Lee jeans. I believe they are available at Kohl’s and JC Penny. They only looked about three years old and the front thighs didn’t look like you’d wiped them down with bleach. I don’t get the current style. Bring back the fancy embroidered jean legs!
Giant zit? I took Lady Bird’s advice and have been using a hot compress to drain the cyst. It is looking a lot better. If I could just slap my own hand when I want to pick at it I’d be golden. Unfortunately I don’t have that control.
What book am I reading? The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. Good, good stuff if you like epic fantasy.
Tell more about Mike’s new job? He is starting the new job Nov. 3 because he felt like he couldn’t be a professional and leave the satellite in the lurch. Let’s hope he eventually gets paid for the month of September and October. I’m ready for some money security. In his current job he takes care of a satellite using software developed by a different company. In his new job he will be the lead engineer/project manager of a company that develops the software that runs the satellite. He is not a programmer, but they need an engineer to make sure they are making the software with all the right stuff. I guess. We don’t really know much about where he will be travelling. It all depends on the contracts he works on.
Side note: He got contacted about an interview out in CA yesterday! He already signed his acceptance letter at the other job, though. And neither of us want to live in LA.
Friends note: It was really silly of me to insist that I find an episode of Friends on cable because I own the entire series on DVD. I just wanted to stumble upon an episode without leaving the comfort of my couch. Isn’t random always better than planned? At least when it comes to classic sit-com viewing?
Weaning note: Why didn’t we do this sooner? I was so afraid that it would make my life much harder and make me lose sleep, but last night he SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT. First time EVER. Maybe with hypothetical baby number 2 I won’t be such a ‘fraidy cat.

That’s funny. I had rutabaga for the first time at the scandanavian restaurant in Epcot (pretty much my favorite place to eat there).
Mommyprof’s last blog post..I’ll play your stupid little game, but you can’t make me like it

I just like to say the word: rutabaga… ruta…baga.
I’m also very happy for Mike (and you!) and his new job!
