My daughter will be starting her sophomore year in college for early childhood education. She was born knowing that she wants to be a teacher and has worked in schools and daycares since she was in middle school. She’s having a tough time with the attitude of many of her friends regarding her career choice. She’s going to a great school in Boston and many of them have commented about the amount of money she’s spending on an education to be “just a teacher”. In fact, she came home the other night after being with some friends she hadn’t seen all summer. She was hurt because one of the guys asked her what her gpa was and when she reluctantly told him 3.9 (because she’s very humble) he said ‘well, aren’t all your classes really easy because you’re just going to be a teacher?’ We’ve had many discussions about this and I think every time she encounters this attitude, it fuels her determination.
