Wonderful Weekend!

If you ever get the chance to meet an internet friend after 6+ years of knowing each other, DO IT! I can’t recommend it highly enough! You know those awkward social situations where everyone is uncomfortable and you don’t know what to say and you just want to disappear? That doesn’t happen when you already know someone so well and they know all your thoughts so you can just be you and have inside jokes and chit chat and have fun. We had a GREAT weekend with the Dbrus family and hope to do it again very soon.

Dawn was exactly like she presents herself online–down to earth, intelligent, funny, and very likable. Max was a total little cutie and had a blast in our plastic toy jungle. Erik has been missing him all day. Erik needs a sibling, I’m afraid. T was a good guy; easy to talk to, willing to interact with crazy internet strangers, appreciative of my cooking and just an all around great fellow.

We didn’t do anything fancy while they were here. We live so far out that between nap times and toddlers, it made more sense to hang around here so we could be together instead of stuck in separate cars for two hours of our very limited time. It was a huge relief to feel like just being here was agenda enough–no running down into DC and trying to corral Erik in places that are not kid friendly. I love showing people the sights of DC but it can be a little stressful, so hanging out at a local park has definite kid-friendly appeal.

So what did we do? Played at the park; bought black out curtains that are six inches too short; drove by the townhouse we made an offer on, tried to figure out Dawn’s GPS but had no luck; ate a lot of chocolate cake, ice cream, magic shell, Mexican food, and pizza; watched the kids play; went on a walk; watched Erik poop in the potty; had fun! You know! Stuff! I’m slowly adding photos to my photostream but I won’t have them all up until tomorrow. I hope Dawn got some good ones, because I got very few with the boys both looking at the camera. I need to be a photoshop master to manipulate two photos into one.

Also! Dawn is so very sweet that she brought presents! I got two fat quarter bundles of NYC fabrics! I need to take a picture and show off. I get to make a NYC quilt to remember our visit. Maybe, if I work very hard, I’ll have it done in time to take to NYC for our next visit with Dawn. Of course, first I have to make my sister’s baby quilt. The baby is due in three weeks and I haven’t even started. Yikes!

Dawn also brought Erik a puzzle that he really loved. It makes sounds, so you know he was all over that. Dawn and T were such great guests. They brought presents and their own bedding and everything. I didn’t have to do anything. I’m such a bad hostess that I didn’t even get them breakfast. T had to bring the cereal and milk to the table this morning because I was focused on eating my muffin. Mmmmmmm. . . pumpkin spice muffins.

Tomorrow is going to be very, very hard. I’m back off sugar after a weekend spent rolling around in the chocolaty mud under the wagon wheels.

In other news, I downloaded MSN Messenger so if anyone wants to video chat (or regular chat) just leave a comment and I’ll send you my e-mail address for the invite. I tried to video chat with my mom and sister this afternoon, but we couldn’t hear each other so I don’t know what the deal with my mic is. We ended up talking on the phone while I chased Erik around the house with the camera. It’s going to be great once I am able to convince Erik to look at the screen and interact with his family. Laynee and Braxton totally loved it and I loved seeing how excited they were when we would wave at them and such.

I promised myself I’m going to be in bed by 9 tonight, so I guess that means I better quit writing here and go brush my teeth. I’m exhaustipated and ready to crash. The black out curtains helped me sleep better, but did not help Erik sleep any longer this morning. The early wake-up call, coupled with a very active outdoorsy day has led to one red-eyed mama.

I’m glad you had a great weekend, but I do have to admit, I’m a little jealous. *I* didn’t get to watch Erik poop in the potty!
