Pink Wardrobe
Nothing like a little retail therapy for a cheerful pick-me-up. I got Erik so many things that I’m planning on returning half of them. I was a little stunned by the total, but after dealing with the slowest sales associate in the history of the world, I wasn’t going to sort through things right at that moment.
The mighty have certainly fallen. The child has shirts with monsters and trucks and camo. What happen to my idealism and fancy little polo shirts? I don’t even care any more. I just grabbed one of everything off the clearance rack. He was thrilled by the monster camo shirt and even looked cute in it. I may have to scrub out my eye sockets now.
I bought myself some elastic waist shorts because I’m 80 years old and several really flowy tops. I even bought a dress! Since I don’t anticipate the need to crawl through any tunnels or go down any slides, I think I can risk a dress when I go out into the cruel, hot summer. Anything to keep myself cool.
I tried very hard to limit the amount of teal and only go for red and pink tops. I look best in red and pink, but I’m not drawn to those colors. I was so proud of myself for buying a whole new pink wardrobe! My brain is retarded sometimes.
I got home and was telling Julie about my success in buying all pink, no teal. As I was enumerating the actual purchases, it became clear that one pink shirt does NOT equate an all pink wardrobe. So now I have one pink button down shirt, one cream button down with lots of different colored flowers embroidered on, one black and teal dress, one black and teal zip up hoodie (more for fall) and one green and blue baby doll top.
And my brain really BELIEVED that I didn’t buy anything teal.
Of course, I didn’t get to wear any of them today because it’s pouring down rain and we are under a flood watch! Not that I mind some relief from the last couple of days. We’ve got to get the car A/C fixed before I become the Wicked Witch of the West.
We did manage to get out to the gym for Latin Cardio. They had two new girls in the nursery. I’m going to find out their schedules tomorrow because Erik will NEVER be left alone with them again. They hated children. They sat on their butts, yelling at the kids to be quiet, while the fifteen children ran wild. When I came in Erik had a nasty diaper that had clearly been yucky for a while judging by the amount of redness on his poor bottom. They aren’t expected to change diapers, but they are expected to call or find the parent for a quick diaper change. There was a little girl howling and crying and they never went to check on her. There were kids fighting over the video games and they never stepped in to set the timers. I was pissed. I don’t think the nursery manager will stand for suck behavior. I’d hate to work for her because she’s a total hard ass and very annoying, but I’ll give her credit for keeping the nursery very clean and very welcoming/fun. Even if she does insist on being called B@rbie D0ll (her given first and last name).
There was a new lady in Latin Cardio that had us all rolling our eyes. The teacher always starts off the class by asking if we know what we are there for. We are supposed to say “a fun workout!” This new lady (probably in her 60s) got really snotty and wanted to know what the teacher meant. That question could be taken so many ways. It was bizarre. At the end of class she declared that she is a dancer. Weird.
Then we came home and Erik screamed bloody murder for 30 minutes straight. We even recorded a minute of the fit for his grandma. Happy Mother’s Day! There was no rhyme or reason to it, so we just left him to scream while we laughed in our sleeves. It is so much easier to laugh about it when you aren’t alone.
Mike managed to put the child down for a nap while I planned our escape to the swimming pool upon wake-up. Only the little freakazoid had no desire to go swimming, so we saved ourselves a chunk of money and a trip in the rain to get wet. For weeks he’s done nothing but beg for the pool and the opportunity presents itself and he doesn’t want to go? Terrible Twos indeed.
And now! NOW! NOW!!!!!
I’m going to go finish the last angel block for Clumsy_chord, put the borders on Erik’s quilt and get the backing seamed together. I have a lot of quilting to do!

I treated myself to some retail therapy this weekend also: 5 new shirts and a whole lot of crafting supplies. I hardly ever buy myself clothes so I really did need them. :) As for the crafting stuff…well, that’s my prozac.
How awful about the nursery staff! I’d complain. Ugh!

LOL – my Amber is 3 now – and the ‘terrible twos’ are still there in force.
We have a role-reversal thing going on – Ambers mother does the proper day-job thing, and I do the ‘work-at-home’ Mom bit.
Most days I don’t get any work done at all till my wife returns and takes over on the ‘keeping her occupied’ front.
