Happy Birthday to Me!

This has hands down been one of the best birthdays in a long, long time! I have felt enveloped in love and friendship. Thank you all so so so much for the e-cards, the phone calls, the comments, the shout-outs and all the birthday wishes. And Sonrisa THANK YOU for the Cadbury Cream Eggs! What a total shock! I tried to buy some at Giant the other day and they were out as well. It was a wonderful surprise and very much appreciated.
We had our moms group Easter Egg hunt this morning and it was really fantastic. The hostess did a great job planning everything. Her home is right on the shores of a lake, so she hid a trail of eggs down to the lake and the kids loved it. Erik took off running down the hill and didn’t realize he could pick up eggs till he got to the bottom. Silly goober.
The kids were all mostly well behaved (except Erik and the sand throwing. See picture above. He was just about on my last nerve, but I am PMSing), the food was fantastic (everyone positively raved about my lasagna. I posted the recipe HERE for the curious), and one of the mods had bought me a birthday cake! How wonderful is that? I think I had a little tear in my eye! It was scrumptious. It wasn’t a party for me, of course, but everyone made me feel special and it was the closest thing I’ve had to an actual birthday party in years. I’m 29. Again.
Not that I actually care about revealing my age. I’m actually 34. If I don’t get pregnant soon (do I really want to?), I’ll be considered of advanced maternal age.
Speaking of which!
My dear, dear mother really knows how to put her foot in her mouth.
Her, talking about some lady at Braxton’s soccer game: She was an older mom. Probably your age.
Me: Uh. Thanks.
Just because I didn’t get knocked up when I was 17 doesn’t make me an older mom!
But back to the good stuff.
The weather was gorgeous today! We were both so sweaty and sandy when we got home that I stripped us both naked and found shorts. We hung out in the park this afternoon so my poor little boy is now a pinkish color. I need to remember to get some fresh sunscreen for my darling viking child.
When Mike came home he presented me with the latest Juliet Marillier book! It’s something of a tradition and I was VERY happy he was continuing to carry on with the tradition. Her books always take years to come over to the US so it’s a major treat to get them early. The Born Queen the final book in Greg Keyes’ latest series was also delivered today and I did a dance of joy! It is one of the best fantasy series out there so I can’t wait to read the conclusion. I just have to decide if I am going to re-read the whole series or not. It is a four book series so it wouldn’t be that big of a deal and I’m sure it would enhance the enjoyment of the fourth book greatly. But the time! ARGHBLARGHBLOOEY. The TIIIIIIMMMMMMMEEEEEEE. What happened to the good old days of reading a book in a matter of hours instead of weeks?
We are headed off to Amish country tomorrow afternoon for a long weekend amongst the fields and horses and outlet malls. I’m not sure what the internet situation will be, but you can bet your patootie I’ll be bringing the laptop just in case we have wireless access. I’m fairly certain the hotel is set up for free high speed wireless, but I can’t remember. I have several things I need to look up and print out tomorrow. I can’t believe the trip is finally here! I briefly thought of cancelling it since we are pinching pennies to buy a house, but I am finally getting to meet Margie, Fae and Liam after years of bloggy friendship and I refuse to pass that up. This is totally the year for the internet converging with real life. We’ve already had several visitors and in May we are getting Dawn and her family!
So yes: birthday=good. Mike went to Cake Love twice today and the second time successfully scored a HUGE piece of my favorite cake. He told them it was for my birthday so they cut it extra large. I saved some for tomorrow, mainly because I would have puked if I tried to eat it all in one sitting. My tummy is not what it used to be.
Hope you all had a great day as well!

Happy birthday! Yesterday was also my daycare lady’s birthday – she turned 38 (which is what I turn later this year – also an older mommy). And Peter’s 3rd birthday was on Monday. So many good birthdays at the end of March, what a great month! Someday I’d love to come and hang with you in DC but alas it is not an option anytime soon. Now I need to find some mommies in my world to hang with! Glad you found such a great group to hang with. Take care.

Happy of happiest birfdays to you!!
And I prefer the term ‘mature mother’ or ‘I may not be able to keep up with you but I’m more patient and have more money now than I did in my 20s mom’.

One more thing…you are so not too old to have aother baby. Please don’t let age stress you in any way. I was 33 when I had my second and would have gone for a third several years later with no problem had my husband been in agreement (Minor detail!).
