Cynthia’s Sin

Tomorrow is my birthday, which means Mike better pick me up a slice of Cynthia’s Sin from Cake Love. If you are a Food Network fan you may have seen Cake Love a few times. It is soooooo good. I would die if I ate a whole cake from there, so I’m just having Mike pick me up a slice of their chocolate peanut butter cake. If they don’t have any tomorrow I am going to cry and fuss and possibly commit murder. I wish I knew how to make a cake like they do.

The weather is supposed to be great tomorrow, which is perfect for our Easter Egg Hunt! Our moms group had to use the rain date, so that’s why it is late. Erik should love this since he’s done nothing but want to hunt eggs ever since Easter. If I was a better mom I might hide them for him again. Heck, if I was REALLY good I would put them together so they were the same colors (I’m so lazy we mostly have bi-colored eggs) and make some kind of color sorting game out of it.

I’m making my very special lasagna that I love to taunt Kisha with. I think I have finally perfected my recipe! Ground chicken instead of ground beef makes all the difference. Plus the spinach, of course. And the no boil noodles. Kisha, come visit me! I’ll make you some! Oh! And I’ll introduce you to my cloth diapering friend. She says she’s on a bunch of cloth diapering forums. She’s also obsessed. I was laughing because she sounds just like you. What’s your cloth diapering name? Maybe you know each other.

Don’t you love it when a blog becomes a personal letter?

Why didn’t anyone ever tell me that Nick Jr. is where it’s at? Wonder Pets! Backyardigans! They sing, but they aren’t annoying! They have good lessons without being totally schlocky! Today the Backyardigans were dancing to big band music. I tried to remember how to do some swing dancing and failed totally. Erik was not pleased. He hates it when anyone sings, but I didn’t know I wasn’t allowed to dance. He points his finger (wonder where he got that? Surely not me), gets a puckered up face and says very seriously “Stop it, Mommy! Stop it!” How can I stop dancing to Big Band? How can I stop singing to such brilliant songs as “Wake up Jeff!” or “Give Your Dog a Bone?” It’s funny that he doesn’t want to watch the Wiggles, but that’s all he’ll listen to in the car. I got a Laurie Brekner CD from the library the other day and he was so angry when I put it in. It was pretty fun and better than a lot of stuff I’ve heard, but it will have to grow on him.

Someone stab me with a fork. Does my life revolve around children’s media?

Why yes, yes it does.

That, and the gym.

It’s spring break this week which totally sucks as far as the gym goes. There are packs of teenage girls wandering around, doing nothing but staring at everyone and giving us all dirty looks. There were four girls today that I never saw do a single exercise, but they sure did have some serious looks to give me and all the other members who were grunting, sweating, groaning, and working our asses off. How could we be so ugly? And fat? And dumb? And not-young? At least that’s what I assume those nasty sneers meant.

I don’t believe all teenagers are evil. Far from it. In fact, there are two girls who regularly come to our Latin Cardio class and they are a true delight (it doesn’t hurt that they think Erik is the cutest child they’ve ever seen). I don’t know what the hell was wrong with these girls today.

Has anyone over in the UK read Neil Gaiman’s Odd and the Frost Giants yet? I want I want I want! I don’t know if it will ever be released over here. It is so cheap I should just order it and count the shipping as the cost. It is part of some special 1 pound book deal to get kids to read. I just read The Pinhoe Egg by Dianna Wynne Jones yesterday and am anxious to read some more children’s fantasy. It also makes my story-brain itch. Why can’t I ever find the time to just sit and WRITE children’s fantasy? Probably because I am way too analytical and want everything to make sense in the world and it buries me under because it doesn’t HAVE to make sense. Plus, you know, the whole lazy thing.

Ok, off to bed for me! I stayed up late watching Gracie’s Choice, a sappy Lifetime Movie starring Veronica Mars Kristin Bell. She is such an amazing actress that she made the movie worth watching. How could they cancel that show? I think we’ll be seeing a lot of her in the very near future. She’s got a true gift.

Oh, I love the Backyardigans! Hoola and I watched it every single day together until he went off to school and left me to watch it alone :( Then it just wasn’t as much fun. I’m hoping BabyJ will develop a liking for it when he’s a toddler but who knows.

And the WonderPets rock! “Lenny, Tuck, and Ming Ming, too!”

My Hoola was a big Nick Jr fan!
