Christmas Eve!
In Sweden they always celebrate the major holidays on the Eve of the holiday, thus Mike has been giddy all day, telling me it’s Christmas. No! It is not Christmas! It is Christmas Eve!
That doesn’t mean much, though. In my family we always opened the main presents on Christmas Eve, with Santa presents on Christmas morning. We always had to wait for our pizza dinner and darkness, then it was time to start the show. Instead, we opened our gifts in middle of the afternoon and then had a very laid back meatball feast. I took a ton of pictures, but very few of them turned out thanks to the amazing moving toddler. You can view my Christmas set RIGHT HERE if you are so inclined.
It was a beautiful day outside, so we took a little walk around the neighborhood. It was so nice to get out of the house and get some sunshine! I need all the vitamin D I can get after several gray and cloudy days.
When we came home, Erik was tired and cranky which could have put a damper on things, but instead we just sort of ignored him and dug into our presents. I got four tops from the online store I was raving about! Only 1 actually looked good, but that’s ok. I follow that crazy 100% rule so it was very smart of the boy to make sure I had several to try on. I’ll return the rest and get my money back for a real life shopping spree. I wish the store had worked out, but the cuts of the clothing were not complimentary to my figure so I guess it’s not meant to be. I don’t want to look like a pregnant slut when I am neither.
Erik wasn’t too impressed with the gift opening. He glommed on to a box full of packing peanuts and had a hey-day throwing them all over the floor. He got several different things, but only showed excitement for a new Wiggles DVD, a little train set, and an aquarium light thing that my granny got him. The box is scary because it says not to ever touch it when it’s on, not to use it as a toy, not to let children under the age of 3 touch it and not to clean it with water. Not exactly the type of thing I would buy a 2 year old, but a few weeks ago I told my grandma how much he likes to look at aquariums so she saw this and had to get it. Honestly, he loves it. Me? I’m not so keen because of the safety problems and because the fish look pretty realistic so it gives me the heebie-jeebies. I’m going to have a kid who grows up and begs for tropical fish, aren’t I?
And now I get to go play Santa! I need to fill the stockings, dig out the Santa presents and make it look pretty in here. I really can’t wait for next year when the magic of the season is fully upon Erik and he gets the look of pure wonder and amazement when he sees the tree and gifts on Christmas morning. As it is, I fear my efforts are wasted on the boy. They won’t be wasted on Mike, though! When I first met him I told him that all Americans have stockings on Christmas morning and forced him into creating that tradition. Now we get stocking stuffers for each other every year and I’m really glad. I love pulling out all kinds of things from the stocking.
Ok, time to get busy!
