Break Time!

I want to spend my whole break watching Brotherhood 2.0 videos. I am a dork. Big, big dork. Or should I say nerdfighter? Yes! I’m a nerdfighter! Sorry, gotta watch the videos to get that.

The giant moth was gone this morning so it was either alive or eaten by something bigger. I came up with a plan to sell its giant carcass on e-bay, enabling Mike to quit his job, the purchase of a house with a tower, and the mass accumulation of other dream objects. Surely someone would want to give me several bajillion dollars for an unusually large insect. Heck, I’d take a fiver.

I’m meeting the other mods of the moms group for a drink tonight. I don’t generally drink, but it doesn’t seem likely that a wine bar will have chocolate so maybe I’ll have a glass. Let’s hope I don’t get drunk! I’m actually looking forward to it b/c it’s been too long since I’ve seen people. I think everyone has been out of town. Summer isn’t a great time to have regular meet-ups. I have a few ideas for increasing membership, but not sure what the agenda for the evening is.

I got Erik down without much of a fight this afternoon. Whoo-hoo! I don’t want this to become the “Erik and His Many Naps” blog, so I won’t bore you with the London Bridge count. I am feeling rather guilty for portraying him as this non-napping little monster when really his only major problem in life is the sleep hatred. Other than that he is the sweetest, happiest, friendliest little boy you could hope to meet. I don’t want to give you a sugar overload, but I do feel it’s important to record the good with the bad for his sanity’s sake. When he’s an old man reading over these journals I want him to know how much I love him.

So the good things:

He is a cuddly, snuggly, affectionate little guy. When we ask him for a kiss he gives them freely and often. There is nothing on this earth sweeter than a baby kiss.

He waves to everyone we see and says hi or bye depending on if we are coming or going.

I want to bottle his laugh. He laughs at everything, especially funny faces and belly tickles. The laugh is infectious and sweet. It could cure cancer, diabetes and lupus if only there was a way to distill it down and deliver it to patients.

He’s starting to say sentences if we listen hard enough. He talks so fast and so often that it’s hard to catch, but yesterday he said “The car is hot!”

He’s fiercely independent and likes to work things out for himself. Sometimes this can be a trial, but if we just have patience he’s able to do things for himself and he glows with pride. In my haste I sometimes find myself tempted to scoop him up as I’m running down the stairs to go somewhere, but then I stay my hand. Is there anywhere I need to be so quickly that I can’t let him walk down the stairs by himself? Not usually.

He must have order in all things. He puts things back where they go. He’s been putting his dirty diapers in the garbage for months. He wipes down tables and cleans up spills. He doesn’t do it well, of course, but it’s the thought that counts. If shown what to do, he will quickly put toys away in a bin.

He’s VERY curious. This is a blessing and a curse, but more of a blessing. I love to watch his big eyes grow even bigger as he figures things out for himself. Mike and I both have a life long love of learning and we are pretty sure Erik will feel the same way.

And did I ever mention that he’s cute? Because he is.

Ok, gotta go make some dough. Calzone for dinner! Whoo-hoo! Is it wrong that I’m getting excited about a treat when I’m the one who plans the menu every single week and cooks the food? We could have calzone every single night if I wanted.
