Daily Report
- Is it bikini season? I couldn’t even find an elliptical at the gym today. I finally had to settle for some weird thing called an arc trainer. I don’t like arc trainers. Booo! Also, the front desk girl said I have to send mom home because she misses Erik. I know she makes a big deal over every kid that comes in the door, but it’s nice to have someone friendly at the front desk. She was on vacation a few weeks ago and her replacements never even so much as nodded at me. They have the wrong job if they don’t like people.
- Today was our day of rest. We’re about all toured out, so we took the day to grocery shop and recuperate. I think this is the end of the dinner reports. I had my mom help me make the menu and it’s basically a report of last week: grilled chicken sandwiches, pecan chicken, pizza, chicken gillespie and chicken enchiladas.
- I want to avoid driving into DC again so I’ve come up with a plan. Pennsylvania! I laid out a few options and my mom jumped on the Amish country idea. I think I’ll research it a little more tomorrow and we can head out on Wednesday. It takes about 2 1/2 hours to get to the big touristy place, so hopefully Erik will get plenty of sleep. He is not a happy boy when he doesn’t get his sleep, and he hasn’t been getting his sleep.
- I haven’t been getting any sleep either. Ever since the night of puckage, he starts screaming and whining in middle of the night. He doesn’t wake up, which almost makes it worse since he doesn’t even know he’s being comforted. Night terrors? Perhaps. Maybe he’s having nightmares about puking. The whole process was pretty traumatic for him.
- We had a gorgeous, hot day today. Our AC broke. Again. They just replaced the whole unit two years ago. Why is it broke again? Maintenance finally showed up around 6 pm and gave us a window unit for the night. He’s supposed to look at it further tomorrow. We won’t be trying to take the window unit out ourselves if we decide we hate it. Last time that happened, Mike dropped it out our third story window. We’re very lucky we didn’t kill someone.
I am trying to get my upcoming birthday block quilt blocks done for the swap I’m in and am having a heck of a time. No AC means the upstairs sewing area is about a hundred million degrees. I almost finished my second to last block tonight, but after one more mistake that has to be ripped out I decided to call it a day. When I went to brush my teeth my face was so red that it was almost scary. Bad, bad heat!
- I hope I haven’t been too mean about my mom. I love her very much and am THRILLED that she was able to come out and visit. I’m sad that she is missing out on so much of Erik’s life and wish she lived just down the street. A friend on my friend’s list just lost her mother and that really drove home the point about how much I rely on my mom even though she lives across the country. She is silly and snarky herself, and loves to tell a good story with lots of embellishments so I don’t think she’d mind my stories too much. In fact, she’d probably make them even wilder and crazier as she told you about the accents she couldn’t understand.
- Sarah said she likes it when I talk about clothes and hairstyles and things like that. One of these years I am going to make a post about how much I hate all my clothes. Funny, since I follow the 100% rule and only buy things I love. I haven’t bought much other than t-shirts for working out since I had Erik and all my other things just don’t fit right anymore. My boobs and belly are bigger than they were pre-birth and will probably never be the same again. Things don’t fit right and I’m a fan of a good fit. I am desperate to go shopping, but have solemnly promised to try to save money so haven’t scratched my clothing itch. I’m also desperate for a hair cut. I’ve only had it cut 3 times in the past 18 months. Insanity! I am sort of longing for a super short cut again, but I’m not sure. I just don’t have the time to be going in every few weeks to maintain it and I am sort of liking my long hair again. I usually wear it down, but it was so hot the other day I had it up in a clip in the pictures I shared. I think it could just use a nice touch up razor cut around the face and I’d be good to go.
Hmmmm. . . seems I just made the post I was going to make one of these days, just in an abbreviated form.
- Off to bed I go! If I had an air mattress I might try to break in to the empty apartment in our building and sleep there. I can’t handle another night of whiny-toddler.
