Baa Baa Black Sheep
Here’s a short little post. Our internet was down last night. Bah. We had great pizza for dinner. So great, in fact, that my mom wants me to open a business called “Pizza Bar” that’s just like a salad bar but you make your own pizza. She didn’t complain of the basil in the sauce. I don’t think she knows what basil really tastes like.
Erik ate all the olives off my pizza, then he spent the night puking them up. The first time he puked I thought he was puking up blood and black fabric, but it was pizza sauce and olives. It was super fun. We had to get up at 6 to give him a bath because he had puke from head to toe. Toddler puke stinks a whole lot worse than infant puke. I thought he was on the mend, but at noon he had a gush of hot bile all over my pants.
The weather is finally improving, but Erik’s sick, Mike’s sick, and I’m tired. No fun for us. Mom, Erik and I went to George Washington’s plantation yesterday. We didn’t get to go through the mansion because the line was way too long and we had an impatient toddler with us. The weather was perfect–cool enough for a jacket with no wind. It started raining on the way home, so we dodged that bullet. If you ever decide to visit Mt. Vernon I have one word of advice–take your own picnic lunch. Their website makes it sound like they have a decent food court, but it was awful and overpriced. It’s the perfect location for an outdoor picnic.
Erik had a great time running down a slope. There were a ton of high school student groups there (all very, very polite kids, probably b/c only good kids can go) and they were mad that the baby could run down the slope but their teachers wouldn’t let them run down. I don’t think the teachers got close enough to see that there was a big brick wall so the kids wouldn’t fall into the Potomoc.
The best part: baby lambs! Erik LOVED the baby lambs. He went right up to them and hugged them, pulled on their ears, and let them suck on his hands. He saw me and another guy pulling grass for them to eat so he did the same thing. I’m sure other kids are just as smart as he is, but it always surprises me when he figures things out like that.
Here’s a few pics of the lambs and of the view of the Potomac and Maryland from the front yard of the Washington Mansion:

So cute! I’m always amazed at the things Peter has figured out just by watching. It’s crazy.
I was going to mention I went to Mount Vernon but I was super young – probably 7 or 8 years old. My mom and dad decided a trip to Washington DC would be a really fun thing for me to do when I was that age – me, mom, and my mom’s aunt Olive (my great aunt that would be) spent about 5 days in Washington DC. I recall we did go through the house but I remember very little about it. We also did some of the other sights – but didn’t do the White House as the line was always blocks and blocks long. I think it is one of the first vacations I still have memories of. I made a really funny scrapbook shortly after the trip with all my ‘memories’ – I really should scan it because it is just priceless.
anyway. Your talk of going to Mt Vernon made me think of that vacation I took in grade school. :-)

What I think is cool is when the little kids know that the animals are babies too. They seem to have some kind of affinity for each other, and they seem to know to be gentle!
