Home and Doghairless
We made it home! We finally walked in the door at 3:05 in the morning, thanks to a four inch crust of ice covering our car. Poor Mike. I sent Erik and the car seat with him to long term parking because it is hard to control the little fellow, but we weren’t thinking about what condition the car would be in. First, Mike couldn’t find the car at all. He finally had to walk to the exit and go in and beg for help. Somehow or another they can find the exact location of your car just using your parking ticket. Technology is amazing, is it not? They dropped him off at his car and left him to the task of hacking through a solid sheet of ice. I waited and waited and waited for probably close to an hour. I was just about ready to go find a cab and have them take me to the nearest hotel.
Other than the car fiasco, we had a great trip home. One our first flight we had the back four seats on the puddle-jumper all to ourselves. Erik had a great time crawling all over the place. We landed on time in San Fransico and I was ready to call on the troops if we needed rescue. Thank you so much Jani, Jennie and Jeanette for giving us your numbers! I would not have hesitated to call someone, but we had no problems at all. Can you believe it was 70F over in SF? I’ve been there in the summer a few times and never saw such nice weather.
Erik spent two solid hours running up and down and up and down and up and down some more. When there were lulls in the airport activity I would let him run down the moving sidewalk, a treat that brought the silliest smile ever to his face. Everyone who saw him would laugh at him, even uptight businessmen. He has that effect on people.
I managed to get us an upgrade (paid) for the economy plus section, which meant we ended up with three seats to ourselves. Worth. Every. Penny. Erik slept for a couple of hours, then had a great time playing around in his own seat. I think the next time we travel he’ll be too old to travel as a lap infant and I’m glad. He’s too big and too wiggly to sit on us.
It’s very nice to be home and away from hairy dogs and hissing cats and whining babies and scuttling lizards. The stupid cat hangs out in the linen closest when she can manage it, which is really fun when you open the door not expecting to see a cat hissing at you. I was putting away laundry on Friday and she scratched the hell out of my finger, triggering my cat allergies. My finger swelled up like a sausage, then my eye ball side muscley gooey thing swelled up and I couldn’t close my eyes. I guess I’m just lucky that the allergies only kicked in on the last day.
Guess I better go and watch some major TV. We have a fully loaded DVR. When am I going to have time to watch all these shows? I have to finish my work, finish the baby quilt I’m working on, finish the last February birthday block I need to send out, design the quilt I’m making for my mom and unpack. I guess the shows and quilts will have to wait. Work is the important thing right now.

Welcome home! The ice is so thick on our driveway we can drive the car ON it and it doesn’t break. I don’t think it’s going to melt until May.
