Fruit Salad, Yummy Yummy
This weekend has been most excellent. We had company over for the first time in a bajillion years, and what excellent company it was. Tora and Mr. Pines finally made their way over to the civilized side of the Potomac and visited our humble abode. Two types of pizza were on the menu: normal homemade tomato saucy pizza and crazy sugar cookie fruit pizza. Our entertainment was a little less complex: one toddler boy who loves to entertain. It’s too bad he was not his normal charming self. He was pretty cranky yesterday, but that didn’t stop him from being totally smitten with Tora. He was quite insistent that she take him upstairs, but she was able to distract him and tease him and convince him downstairs was ok.
I really think we need to make it a priority to visit with the Pines family more often. We met when via a mutual friend when we moved to this area and have actually only seen each other in person a handful of times, but I really feel like I’ve known them forever. You know when you are around someone and they just seem to get you and you can relax and have fun? That’s how it is with the Pines family. And they are smart! And interesting! Fun fun fun. I hope they had fun as well. I never feel like a very good host. I forget to offer drinks or turn on music. I don’t know how to set the ambiance. My mother was not the hostess with the mostess and I never learned graciousness from anyone.
It’s really too bad I couldn’t sneak a certain MisterE into Tora’s handbag on the way out, but it was a tiny little purse and I don’t think he would have fit.
We’ve been eating the remaining fruit all day today so I’m feeling healthy. I probably shouldn’t personally feel healthy since it is mostly Mike and Erik that are gobbling it up, but I feel healthy by osmosis. I’ll be sleeping next to Mike. Don’t you think that fruit will just schlooop up into my skin?
I’ve been working on my work and it is easier and harder than I thought it would be. In some ways it is so easy that I am scared I am going to send it in and they are going to tell me I am doing it totally wrong and cancel my contract. In other ways it is a real challenge. Does anyone know a good source for academic lecture podcasts online? Of course I can google for it, but you guys might know just the spot and save me the trouble of wading through the chaff. I just need a few short excerpts for my project.
Jeanette, one of my commenters without a blog, gave me a tip about a different type of knee stabilizer. Instead of a stupid, big, useless sock-like knee brace she gave me a link to this little strap that has a hard piece of stuff right under the knee. I got one this weekend and wore it all day yesterday. What a difference it makes! My knee feels a whole lot better and I am hopeful that I’ll be able to hit the gym and really work out tomorrow. I need to be as healthy as possible this week because we leave for Oregon on Saturday. Healthy eating there means eating fried zucchini with your greasy pizza. Mike and I will go shopping and try to cook as many meals as possible, but it’s hard to stay strong when no one understands that Blizzards are not acceptable meals and Taco Bell is a product of the devil. Sure, I’ve eaten my fair share of Taco Bell. I grew up on it and obsessed on it in college and drove many a mile to get a burrito when I lived in Astoria, land of very little fast food. Now? Ugh. It makes me totally sick and I end up miserable all night if I try to eat an enchirito.
Ok, I really have to go to bed now. Though I love that Erik goes to bed early (9) and I have a couple of hours to myself in the evenings (yes, yes, the Ferberizing really did seem to work. Good good good! Please don’t say I told you so!), I’m not so happy about the situation when 6:30 rolls around. I can’t even imagine if we were putting him down at 7 like our pediatrician suggested.
*Does anyone else think it sad that I am using Wiggles lyrics to title an entry? I know other people use cool lyrics, but I only know Wiggles lyrics these days. We have become obsessed with the Wiggles. It feels like they are playing constantly. I think I might be able to go on tour and be a back-up singer. I swear our kid isn’t turning into a rectangle tv-head! I promise!

Mmm fruit pizza! That is one of my favorite things to make. Of course, I’m trying to convince my mom to put it on the crescent roll dough sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar, instead of the sugar cookie. The cookie makes it too sweet for me.
Have you ever made vegetable pizza? It’s my all-time favorite. Love, love, LOVE it.

Bah! How could you? Now I have that song in my head! At least he isn’t into the Doodlebops. *shudder*

Lol, I was singing the song in my head wondering where it was from! Hoola used to watch the Wiggles and my niece does now but it’s been a while since I’d seen them though so I didn’t remember where the song came from until you told.
And the fruit will definitely schloop into your skin! Definitely. (or at least you can tell yourself it will. that’s what I do in situations like that.)

I actually read somewhere that for toddlers, early to bed means late to rise….contrary to what you would think. Maybe you could inch his bedtime up and see what happens. And then tell me what happens cause this is still all just theory for me so far ;)

MIT announced recently that they were going to put lots of lectures on line.
