Thank You Santa!

Santa Claus came for a visit this afternoon! I didn’t see him, but I heard a knock at the door and when I opened it there was a box with a North Pole return address. Santa must read my blog (or my mind) because he sent Erik a corn popper! I don’t know which one of you lovelies sent it, but I thank you so much! I knew Erik would love a corn popper and I was totally right. He and his corn popper have been inseparable this afternoon. He’s even gotten good at pushing it around with no hands. Who needs hands when you have a mouth? Silly boy.

Here’s a bad picture of him enjoying his new toy:

I took a video too, but then I watched it and was so disgusted by the state of my house that I decided I couldn’t share it. Usually when we go away on vacation we clean the house first, but this time we left everything in a state of disarray and things are in chaos now. I can’t stand it but my cold and jet lag are making my brain so fuzzy that I can barely function. We did a minute amount of cleaning this afternoon, but there is still a lot that needs to be done.

Let’s get back to Santa and the corn popper, though.

I love, love, love this blog community. I sometimes get angsty and go into a big depression and think that everyone hates me and Mike always points out that my blog readers love me. Things like this prove it is true! Someone went to a lot of time and trouble to find a corn popper, pack it up, go to the post office and ship it. Granted, it could be said the person loves Erik more than me, but getting the corn popper in the mail like that saved me a lot of trouble of hunting it down. I was dreading going to Toys R Us because it’s just so loud and bright and . . . and. . . and. . . kid like. . . in there.

My own family loves me, of course, but they rarely go out of the way to do a sweet gesture like that. My sister is too self-centered, my grandma is too tight-fisted and my mom is stretched way too thin. As silly as it sounds, many of my blogging buddies have become almost closer family even though I’ve never met them. My family really doesn’t know the first thing about me and they really aren’t interested in knowing the adult me. You guys know things about me that you probably shouldn’t. I over share and I’m not even all that embarrassed by it(until I meet someone in person and they bring up something crazy I said).

I love my internet people! Erik has been showered with gifts from my internet friends this Christmas and I’ve been so grateful for every single one. The gratitude is for the gift itself, of course, but also that so many people care about me and my baby and are thinking of him at this hectic time of year. Thank you all so, so much for that. It really does mean more to me than I am able to express.

I just read a book about the total destruction of civilization in the very near future. Rape, murder, slavery, and violence of all imaginings are so common that most people die before they leave their teens. Though I know that the human heart can be a place of darkness, I know so many random strangers that bring light into the world that I have a hard time taking such a cynical view of the world seriously. Could the United States really dissolve into violent anarchy within the next twenty years when there are people who would send a corn popper to someone they’ve never met? (Assuming I’ve never met this Santa–I didn’t recognize the handwriting at least.)

I think I’d better get myself to bed now before I get any more mushy. I can’t believe I’m still awake right now. Erik did not sleep his customary 12 hours last night. He went down at 7 and was up at 3:30, the little booger. That makes for a tired mommy.

P. S. I’ve started uploading our Christmas photos over at flickr, though they are not labelled or captioned or anything. We took 100 pictures exactly, but not all of them turned out. I have a hard time weeding things out since in general I can find something beautiful and unique about Erik’s face in every single picture, no matter if they are of the exact same scene. Eventually I will have them up over at Erik’s blog, but I don’t think I’ll be putting many of them up here.

Shoot – someone beat me to it. As I was shopping before Xmas I saw a whole stack of those thingies in the aisle and almost picked one up. I was going to email you in the New Year. Glad Erik enjoys it.

the popper is one of the greatest toddler toys ever invented! Way better than any battery operated gizmo do-dad fancy $150 toy that breaks five minutes after you open it.
Cheers for the corn popper! :)
