Doctor, Docter, Mister MD!

Do emergency rooms have dentists on call? I am about to die, I think. If I had a pair of pliers and a big mallet I’d have Mike knock me over the head and pull my tooth out. It has been aching the past couple of days but tonight it is almost unbearable. I had some Tylenol3 left over from the birth of Erik so I took one and it seems to be helping, but this is not good at all. No wonder people died in their 30s back in the olden days–with no dental care they had no reason to live. They were probably in constant pain.

Erik is officially tuftless. He got his very first hair cut today and the barber fought the tuft like it was a wild animal that had to be subdued. First he just trimmed it with the hair on top of the head, but when it stood straight up he got serious and shaved it right down to the quick. I liked the straight standing tuft! I imagine it will be up to its old tricks in a month so I don’t have to cry too hard. He has a really curious little brown spot on the back of his head, now. Hopefully as he gets older his hair will turn brown and he won’t end up with the nickname Spot.

Pictures of the whole thing are up on my flicker site. Sorry I am too lazy to post them here tonight, but I took that codeine and I am about to fall asleep. I also posted pics of the last two blocks from the block of the month club I’m in and some pictures of our trip to the park today. It was so warm out I was wishing I had shorts on. Insane! I am not complaining about the warmth, but it does make me wonder about global warming. Should I really be pining for shorts at the end of November? I don’t know what the normal pattern in Maryland is so maybe it’s ok. There’s also a great pic of Erik in his little leather jacket. I am so in love with that jacket that’s it’s not even funny. I am not into fashion at all, but I think he looks like quite the handsome lad in his jacket. We always get comments on it, which is hilarious to me since my sister always accuses me of dressing Erik like a dork. Maybe I dress him a little too preppy who knows. He’s adorable and that’s all that counts.

I am really glad that we took him to a real barber shop for his first haircut instead of Cartoon Cuts, a place that specializes in cuts for kids. I don’t know why, but somehow the name Cartoon Cuts totally freaked me out. I’ve never been in the place, but I don’t want to. I imagine clowns and loud colors and bright lights and lots of screaming kids. I haven’t heard anything at all about this place, but for some reason I think they would just do a bad job cutting hair. In my mind, I think that they must be really tired of dealing with screaming kids all day so they stop caring what the hair cuts look like as long as they get done. This information springs from my imagination, not anywhere trustworthy. The guy at the barber shop, Duc, did an excellent job on Erik’s hair. He was patient and kind and didn’t seem bothered by the fact that he wouldn’t hold still. Erik only whined a couple of times when the clippers were buzzing right in his ears, but other than that he had fun. He was the center of attention and that’s the surest way to make him happy–give him a crowd of adoring fans.

Ok, my brain is starting to feel soggy so I better just hit post and go to sleep.
