Stuff and Things
Thing the First: I can’t believe there are actually a few days left until Mosaic Minds goes live and I’ve almost got everything I need to do done. No panicking for me this time! We could use a couple of more features and maybe another short story if anyone wanted to challenge themselves to do a little writing this weekend. The theme is Dreams and Nightmares but we really have enough stories about literal dreams. It would be nice to have a couple about dreams as aspirations or nightmares as bad experiences.
Thing the Second: I am going into hyperactive quilter mode. I really didn’t like the block I made yesterday because the contrast wasn’t there. I had to pee in middle of the night (my bladder has been a casualty of pregnancy) and slipped into the sewing room just to try out a couple of things. Mike thought I’d gone nuts when he found me messing with fabric at 2:30 in the morning. I should have just made the darned block right then and there, but I went to bed and couldn’t sleep for three hours because I was thinking about making the block. (Pictures at end of post).
Thing the Third: It’s Thanksgiving! We had a very small feast today because I only made the things I like. Since Thanksgiving is not a traditional Swedish holiday I don’t have to accommodate Mike’s favorite foods. It was good stuff and I am thankful for so many things. For as much as I whine and complain and worry, I really have an excellent life with a wonderful husband. Mike is the man of my dreams and does so much more than he has to do. Erik is the most adorable little boy I’ve ever seen and continues to amuse and amaze me on a daily basis. Today’s newest? Instead of sway dancing he can move his feet really fast like he’s tap dancing. He kept climbing on top of me, standing on the end of the elliptical and tap dancing like crazy. He’d finish off by stage diving off the elliptical, always trusting that I’d catch him. We got a movie of it, but not on the digital camera. Darn.
Thing the Fourth: The dentist said that if my tooth kept aching even after getting the filling last week I’d need a root canal. Guess whose getting a root canal? Guess who isn’t really even sure what a root canal is? Someone please tell me it doesn’t hurt anymore than a filling. It’s got to be better than going around with my whole jaw aching all the time.
Thing the Fifth: Erik is an oinky little pig! The last few weeks he hasn’t been eating much, but someone must have flipped a switch in him because we can’t get him to stop eating these past two days! He wolfed down a whole banana like it was nothing, even though it was probably longer than his arm. Last night he did five very serious nursing sessions–usually he just does one in middle of the night. Yesterday he went over to the diaper bag, opened it up and brought me his bag of graham crackers. I don’t know where he’s putting all the food. He ate five full meals today and his little belly is bulging out of control. I suppose he’s going through a growth spurt.
Thing the Sixth: Who ever hard of a cough turning into a rumbly down below tummy problem? I thought Erik had two different sicknesses, but then Mike and I had the same thing (and guess what. . . you really can’t do crunches when you have rumbly down below problems). I was walking to my mom today and she said both the kids had the same thing and the doctor there said it was going around. Weird. They seem so unconnected.
Thing the Seventh: My sister and her family have moved in with my parents. I could say a whole bunch about this but I’m going to refrain for the evening. I asked my mom if the wedding was still on and she hadn’t ever heard that it was off so I guess it was just off for the few minutes that my sister was talking to me.
And how about some quilty goodness pictures? This is my re-do of the November block for the Block of the Month group and my August block.

A root canal basically consists of the root being taken out of the tooth. Then, of course, the hole has to be filled up and the tooth made functional again. A lot of people will tell you that it hurts very, very much. However, it doesn’t necessarily hurt.
Most people have a root canal done at a point where they have a severe infection in the tooth. Infections in the tooth are very painful (not much room for swelling in that area of the mouth), and most of the pain is caused by the infection, not by the removal of the root.
Having said that, there a two things I know of that can reduce the chances of a painful recovery. 1. Have the root canal done by an Endodontist. This is a dentists who specializes in root canals, and because they do it all day, every day, they are going to do a better, quicker, job of it than the average dentist who does 3 a week, if that. 2. If the dentist thinks that the current pain is caused by infection, see if he/she thinks doing a round of antibiotics prior to doing the root canal is a good idea. There are pluses and minuses to doing this - sometimes the antibiotic will reduce the swelling and minimize the recovery period, but it doesn’t always work, and you do not want to let the infection (if there is one) get any worse.
And, of course, you have the breastfeeding issue, which may drive any decision about antibiotics. But, hopefully, you will have a good experience with this, as it sounds like you are dealing with the problem before it gets to a critical point. Good luck!
