Hodge Podge of Thoughts

  • Perhaps you’re a little too obsessed with Battlestar Galactica when you no longer threaten to throw your kid off the balcony. Instead you threaten to space him. He’s not going to have any issues at all growing up. At least none that a good counseling session with a cylon can’t cure.
  • My to-do list is not done and I guess I’m ok with that. There were some things that I thought were essential but after dealing with Whiny Baby for several days “essential” becomes relative.
  • I’ve lived with poor customer service for way too long. Today I finally steeled myself to call the rental car agency to make sure they had a toddler seat. I was ready to fight and take names. I never used to take names when I made a customer service call but after living out here I always ask for the name and ask for confirmation of whatever it is I am supposed to be getting. I put on my bitch face and I hate it. It drains me. Guess what? I was calling Oklahoma. I did not need my bitch face. I talked to a down-home friendly guy who assured me there would be a car seat and I had nothing to worry about. I didn’t even take his name. He put me at ease and I could breathe after talking to him. I should have called weeks ago. I guess I could still get screwed, but I really believe Oklahomans are a nicer breed of people (even if they are generally Republican). If all else fails Emmee, a buddy of mine from college, has offered up a baby seat and I have her number in my cell. It’s been great reconnecting with her via the blog and e-mail (hi Emmee!). There are very few people from my college days that I’d share this blog with but she’s a kindred spirit and is just as cynical as I am. Probably more so.
  • I’m lucky I haven’t been to the ER with Erik this week. He learned to open the oven door (while it was on), he unscrewed a cap on some glue powder mix stuff and piled it all over himself and the carpet, the did a flip off the bed that ended in a somersault (is that a double axle?), and he climbed the stairs before I even realized he was gone. And that’s just in the last three days. I think my heart stopped when he did the flip off the bed. Mike and I were both standing there watching him but we both froze and couldn’t stop him.
  • If you read this through the Queen of Rambles blog–I just realized the comments were broken! Sorry if you tried to comment. I was overzealous in adding entries to my blacklist but didn’t realize it. I just thought I’d lost my funny. You can comment now except that I’ve actually turned off all comments so I won’t come home to five hundred spam comments. Also, I plan on making voice posts over at my live journal every day if that sort of thing interests you.
  • At our last moms group playdate one of the babies did baby sign and I was sooooo jealous. She never whined or cried or got annoying. She’d just sign what she wanted and her mom could get it for her. Why won’t Erik be a good boy and learn his signs? It was pretty amazing to watch.
  • I can’t believe I’m going to have a 1 year old in two days! I’ll have to save the mush post for when I get back.
  • Everyone have a great two weeks! I’m planning on having a wonderful, relaxing time. We’re going to throw Erik at my mom and let her deal with him
