Bad Internet

Our internet problem is just getting worse and worse. I called the cable company on Friday night and set up an appointment to have a guy come and look at it last night. We kept getting calls from the cable company telling us the guy would be late. Finally at 10 pm the cable guy himself called and said the job he was working on would take at least 2 more hours to complete and he could come over when he was finished but wanted to check with us first. Midnight? For a cable repair? I think not.

The weird thing is it normally works in the morning and sometimes very late at night. The cable company said there is something wrong with the signal.

I am sometimes able to steal bandwidth from the one person around these parts that doesn’t know s/he should secure the wireless signal, but that’s pretty spotty. I just hope the cable guy comes out on Monday like he is supposed to. I need Internet! Monday is the Anticipation deadline for Mosaic Minds so hopefully I’ll have some work to do! (Hint, hint. Send in submissions.)

I am craving mango cake. I didn’t know I liked mango cake. We went to a birthday party yesterday and they had it and I loved it even though I was sad at first because it wasn’t chocolate.

We had a good time at the birthday party. Finally I have learned to be sociable with Mike’s co-workers! All it took was a baby. I can talk sleep deprivation (who am I kidding. I have no sleep deprivation these days). I can talk poopy diapers. I can talk big blue eyes and daddy’s face and wow yes he is crawling at six months and he was born with that tuft of hair I swear I don’t style it that way. It makes life easier. Plus, his co-worker is one of the best cooks I know. He’s a Mexican from Texas (as he’ll proudly tell you, though he is more likely to use a word I would never utter instead of Mexican) and damn can that boy cook. Yesterday was brisket and Mexican beans and rice.

They have tons of friends who showered the birthday boy with all manner of gifts. It kind of made me ill to see all the presents piled up when I know there are all kinds of children in the world who are hungry and cold and need a little love and food and tenderness. It’s certainly not the fault of the co-worker or any one else at the party. They are just lavishing love on a little boy who turned one. Why shouldn’t they? MisterE has way more toys than he can play with. I need to start donating to charity when I feel the urge to buy him a new hunk of plastic.

I really need to think about ways to prevent MisterE’s toy box from running over. I was reading about someone who did book exchanges instead of presents at her kids birthday parties and I really liked that idea. It seems more useful than piling up the junk. Who knows what the answer is? Maybe get all the presents and put them away unopened and give them to the Toys for Tots program when Christmas rolls around. That would work for a few years at least. Honestly, though, I don’t think we will have as much of a problem with it because I don’t think we will host a big party. The co-worker enjoys hosting parties because they have a lot of space and he loves to cook. We don’t have the space to have 20 families over for a big BBQ.

Guess I better post this while I still have a connection. Who knows when I’ll next be able to post.

I feel the pain about the cable guy. I had internet problems last week and the guy didn’t make it to my place 3days in a row. Finally I complained and a few months free which was nice. :)

Congrats on the babylon 5 win too :)

Some people say you can put excess toyage into a rotation, swapping out toys periodically and letting a kid’s poor long-term memory turn it into an exciting new treat over and over again. I was never that organized, though…
