Jolly Old Saint Nicholas visited this morning, and I know have Rudolph the Red-Nose Reinpig socks. I bet you didn’t know such a thing existed, but I have proof. Too bad I totally forgot about them till just this second, so you won’t get a picture until later (if I remember at all). Big fat reindeer should not be put on socks where they will become even bigger and fatter when clinging to someones overly wide calf muscles.
We had a really easy Christmas today, which pleases me. At this point we really only have one family tradition: making sure everyone in the house gets a filled Christmas stocking. I’ve convinced Mike that it’s just the American way. Shhhhh! Don’t tell him otherwise. I like my Christmas stocking.
I talked to everyone in my family, and was kind of glad we are 4,000 miles away. It would be fun to see all the kids and give my mom a hug, but it would be stress stress stress to deal with all the holiday expectations. Here’s some snippets of the Granny Conversation (if I did categories on this blog, this would have to be one of them).
Granny: When are you sending me a portrait of your baby?
Me: We’re waiting for his baby acne to clear up.
G: ACNE??? ACNE??? OH MY GOD YOUR BABY HAS ACNE?????
M: Uhhhh. . it’s a common thing among babies.
G: I’ve never heard of such a thing! OH MY GOD!!!
M: It’s not that bad. . .
G: Poor little thing never even gets kissed!!!
M: He doesn’t?
G: Of course not!!! Who would kiss a nasty pimply face.
Thanks Grandma for calling my baby nasty.
At least she likes my husband.
G: I just loved the Christmas picture you sent! He looks so handsome!
M, thinking she’s talking about the baby: He is pretty cute, isn’t he?
G: Oh yes! He always looks so good. You and the baby look ok too.
M, thinking ewwww, why is my grandma crushing on my husband: Uhhhhh. . . thanks?
I have perfect fodder for the next issue of Mosaic Minds. The theme is Generation Gap. Wonder what I’ll write about? Ha!
Speaking of writing projects, I ran across a kind of neat meme-ish thing today. It’s called Free-for-All Friday. On the last Friday of each month you set up a guest account on your blog and let whoever wants post something to your blog. It could either be really cool or extremely disastrous. If I remember, I’m going to try it on Friday. Any takers on a bet based on my memory? I’m thinking it won’t happen, but I hope some dim glimmer of the idea penetrates through my mommy-brain fog on Friday.
How about some pictures? They are mainly of the boy, of course, but there is also a picture of a little wall hanging that I just finished.

When I heard Margalit’s daughter collects Dala horses, I remembered that I had a paper pieced Dala horse block in my bag of wonders. I was supposed to make a Swedish wall hanging out of it for my father-in-law, but then the Swedes decided not to exchange Christmas gifts so I never did anything with it. I asked Margalit if her daughter would like me to whip something up, and she seemed pleased. Her daughter asked for purple and green borders, so I was happy to oblige. I didn’t measure, but I think the whole thing works out to about 22 inches square.

What is this thing? What am I supposed to do with it? See why we didn’t get the boy presents? He doesn’t know how to get excited.

The insides of the present! He looks slightly more excited. I love his chubby pot belly and his Alf-Alfa hair.

A very serious young boy with devil eyes (our new camera doesn’t seem to reduce red-eye. Really, I am posting this so you can look at the pretty bauble on my wrist.

Finally a toy he likes! He got a little cat (possibly Findus) from his aunt and uncle in Sweden. It’s the first toy he’s shown any interest in at all.

The wall hanging is beautiful. (So is the boy, but you know that.)
Happy Boxing Day!

He is adorable - his haircut reminds me of the old Dennis the Menice tv shows.

Oh it is GORGEOUS. The boy, well his fatty tummy is to die for. I want to blow a million raspberries on that tummy. I have no clue of that other toy, but it looks like a jolly jumper. Can you hang it from a doorframe? Otherwise, I’m clueless.
The girl will LOVE the wall hanging. She even cleared a space for it right next to her Dala Horse collection.
Today she and the Boy told me that they had gotten a pony named Bill from Santa. Now, you know Santa doesn’t come to our house, but they had this whole story about how Bill is in the barn and they already let him out on the front lawn to graze, etc. They’re so weird.
Thanks. I can’t wait to show this to the Girl.

We do Christmas stockings, too. Always have. It’s one thing we all look forward to each year. Erik’s serious face looks like he is saying, “Yeah? What are YOU looking at?”
