Roller Coaster
This parenting thing sure is a roller coaster. I’m happy to say we are climbing up a big hill today. Erik is back to his happy, sleepy self and I’ve been able to get some rest. He even spent a lot of time in his bassinet last night, which was amazing. Wouldn’t it just figure that I couldn’t sleep the whole time he was in the bassinet because I was worried he would get something in his face and stop breathing? I slept a whole lot better when I brought him back to bed with me. I have learned to sleep without moving at all. No more flippity-flopping for me.
Today is also a very happy day because I won! I won! I won a box of Happy Lush (I’m always hearing about Lush, but don’t even really know what it is) from a drawing that Julie at A Little Pregnant hosted. I was hoping for a quilt since my poor deprived baby boy doesn’t have a homemade quilt even though his mother is a quilting fool, but I’ll take any prize I can get. I never win anything. Maybe my luck has turned and I should go buy a lottery ticket. It’s Halloween, so I could actually leave the house looking like I do. I have green and blue flowered pajama bottoms on with a red and black flowered blouse (my wardrobe is not conducive to baby holding–almost all my blouses have a lot of beading down the front), topped off with a khaki colored baby wrap that makes me look like Xena. I was getting really frustrated with this baby wrap thingee because the directions just didn’t make sense. Even my rocket scientist husband couldn’t figure it out. I’ve played with it on and off for a few days and was just about ready to throw in the towel. Today I decided to go by instinct instead of reading the directions and viola! It is on and it seems to be correctly positioned. I haven’t tried putting the baby in it yet. He’s asleep and I learned a very valuable life lesson from Friends. Never wake a sleeping baby. Rachel woke up Emma and lived to regret it. I shall not repeat a fictional character’s mistake.
Maybe instead of writing this I should be finishing up the birth story. It happened so long ago I don’t feel much motivation to finish writing it, but I do want a copy to go into Erik’s baby book so I need to do it anyway. And I need to go pee before sleeping baby wakes up.

Good for you for resting when you have the chance.
