I’ve Been Tagged
I’ve been tagged by Mo for a meme, so since I’m just sitting here being bored I may as well do it. I was sleeping quite peacefully until an angry bird started demanding entrance into my bedroom window. Crazy critter!
Remove the blog at #1 from the following list and bump every one up one place; add your blog’s name in the #5 spot; link to each of the other blogs for the desired cross pollination effect.

Next: select four new friends to add to the pollen count. (No one is obligated to participate and anyone can play if they want to). (Oh man, do I hate doing this part! I don’t want to bug anyone, yet I don’t want anyone to feel left out! So so so hard.)
What were you doing 10 years ago?
1995
I was student teaching in Bartlesville, OK. I was working my ass off and wondering if I would really like teaching. My teacher-mentor was a total freak and hated me and all his students, which made me cry almost every night. He did have a very good curriculum for American literature–one that made a lot more sense than the one I was supposed to use when I started my own classroom in Oregon.
I was also obsessively working out with a friend. We had two exercise videos that each had an hour long workout and we’d do at least one a night, often both if we had the time. Somehow I never did get skinny, though.

2000
I had just met Mike in person for the first time and was totally in love. Even before meeting him I knew this would be my last year of teaching. I didn’t enjoy it and didn’t feel like I should have to give up my ideals in order to avoid lawsuits. I don’t think my ideals were that hard: do the work, pass the class. I was the fattest I’d ever been and had been depressed, but at the end of the year I got a diet and motivation and discovered water aerobics and lost about 80 pounds in 8 months. But I still wasn’t skinny.

2004
At the beginning of 2004 we finally moved back to the US and spent 7 months living with my dad. I was prepared to be miserable, but it was actually really good to get to know him without interference from my mom. He was a different person than I thought he was. I also took a job as a para-professional at an elementary school and really enjoyed it. I joined the Y and became addicted to the elliptical machine. Later that year Mike finally found a job out in DC, so we packed up everything we owned and moved out here and tried to adjust to big city life. I started subbing in the local school district and really enjoyed that, as well. We also started trying to have a baby that year and had one miscarriage along the way.
What were you doing yesterday?
I was mostly sitting in traffic. I had a doctor’s appointment, had my belly pummelled by Thumper, bought a new luxurious pillow, and watched an episode of Babylon 5. Thrilling!

Thanks for playing! I found it really tough to think back to what I was doing 5 years ago. My how things have changed.
