Lazy Days
How do people find the stamina to endure the boredom of unemployment? I guess i better enjoy it while it lasts because this little boy will have me hopping soon enough. The other day I saw the happiest, cutest baby in the world and I think my little boy will be like him. He was in a grocery cart car seat thingee and gleefully kicking his little legs as hard as he could. Then his grandma came over and started talking to him and holding his hands and his whole body was spasming with pure joy. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such happiness anywhere before.
You know what? I forgot to mention the weirdest piece of mail we received the other day–a very nice, hand written thank you note. This wouldn’t be much of a story, except it was from the auto shop where I had the car inspected. They sure do know how to do marketing there. The thank you card included a magnet with their name and number, so I’ve put it on the fridge. If we ever need a mechanic I’ll be sure to call them. They were very nice and seemed honest (the car was in for an inspection and they passed it without trying to convince me I had to pay them to fix anything).
The note reminded me that I have been sorely remiss in sending out baby gift thank you notes. First, the thank you cards were packed up, then I was just lazy. Now I’m almost embarrassed since I owe some from over a month ago. Sending them out MUST take top priority on my agenda today. I don’t want to be an ill-mannered buffoon, but I think I am.
Mike has discovered the joys of Tylenol PM. He is not a pill taker and doesn’t understand why I have a whole arsenal of medication at my disposal (which I haven’t been able to use the past nine months). He had a really bad headache the other day and couldn’t take my regular Tylenol because it was not in gel-cap form and would make him gag, so I convinced him to take some Tylenol PM. He was amazed at how well he slept and was convinced to take some more last night since he was not feeling good at all. Poor boy has a cold and I am going to not be happy with fate if he gives it to me. The only thing worse than labor, would be laboring with a snotty nose and sore throat.
The last few days have been really good in terms of reading. In fact, I just read what might possibly be my new favorite book for the next little while: The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale. It’s a fairy tale re-telling for a YA audience, but is actually pretty gory for all that is says grades 6-10. I’m going to order the other Hale books right now, even though they are in HB instead of PB. That is the mark of a good book. I also enjoyed East by Edith Pattou, another YA fairy tale retelling (though for a younger YA audience than TGG). It was good as well, but certainly not as good as The Goose Girl. East was set in Norway and had a lot of Norwegian words in it, which made it interesting since Swedish and Norwegian are so similar.
I guess I better go get those thank you notes written while I’m thinking about it.

I’m not unemployed, I’m on disability, so my entire life stretches out in front of me filled with mind numbing boredom. I’m going out of my freaking skull trying to find something that will hold my interest and is extremely cheap and takes no physical effort. Any ideas?
