Money Money

I really need to get a job this summer. If I’m not working, I’m out spending money. I try not to and I don’t buy that many frivolous things. In fact, most people would think we live a downright frugal existence. We don’t buy videos, computer games, high end techno stuff, or much of anything else, really. Instead, I buy craft supplies and clothes for babies. I had a good excuse today. My nephew is having his first birthday and my sister is having another baby, so it was time for shopping!

I wanted to get my nephew a super cool toy that he would love and cherish forever while having lots of educational fun. I talked to my mom and found out he only has two “toys” that he is at all interested in: a little plastic red hanger and my dad’s shoe horn. He has TONS of toys and ignores them all. What toy can compete with an old, plastic shoe horn? Instead I bought him some nice clothes, though that isn’t very fun at all but it is useful. I also want to figure out a way to start a savings account for him, but am not sure how to go about it without giving my sister access to it. I think when I’m there in July I should go to my bank and ask them how to do it.

Then. .

Then. . . .

THEN!!!!

I got to have some fun.

My sister doesn’t need any baby supplies for her new baby, so I went out and bought her little girl several CUTE CUTE CUTE dresses and little outfits at Macy’s. I also wanted to pick up some cute clothes for my little guy, but . . bleh. . . boy clothes just aren’t cute enough to warrant spending the kind of money Macy’s wants. Having a boy is probably going to save us a ton of money because I have yet to see any outfit and think “I have to have that!” No danger of going overboard there.

Now, if only my sister would have her baby a few weeks early so I could see it while I’m there! Not that I actually want her to have a preemie. I know that’s Not Good and I want her baby to be as healthy as possible. I just want the due date to be wrong and the baby to be ready about a month before she’s supposed to be ready. It’s not outside the realm of possibility since she never had a period after delivering Braxton they are just kind of guessing on her due date. Now I’m kind of wishing I would have decided to go out there in August instead of July, but August is already completely booked up. We’re going to Toronto for a weekend and we are moving, so I wouldn’t want to try to fit in a cross-country trip as well.

Speaking of babies, I had my doctor’s appointment yesterday and it was really anti-climatic. As usual everything is totally normal, everything looks good, and there is nothing to report. My mom thinks I’m the doctors aren’t giving me good care because I don’t go as often as my sister goes and they never have anything to tell me. I’m just thankful I don’t have to go as often as she does and that the doctors don’t have to tell me all the things they have to tell her. I’m not diabetic and am having a normal pregnancy. That’s good! While it would be fun to have more ultrasounds just so I can see the baby moving around, I’m glad I don’t require as many ultrasounds as my sister requires. It’s not shoddy medical care, but I guess it might look that way when her recent experiences have been the hawk-eyed vigilance of doctors taking care of a high risk diabetic pregnancy.

And now for your entertainment: mom’s latest name suggestion was Shooter. I sincerely hope she is giving me these names in an attempt to at humor. Otherwise I think she needs serious psychological help.

    Shooter?

Well, since we seem to be going for a Western theme…how about Gunner? Wyatt? annnnnnnnnnnd Sundance?

Are you sure she isn’t playing pick the weirdest name game and just didn’t tell you?

A little unsolicited advice - they grow unbelievably fast in the first year, so I really wouldn’t spend a ton on nice clothes. We were pleased with things that we bought at thrift stores and saved a ton (more money for craft supplies). A good, kid-oriented thrift store will have baby “stuff” too - we got our Diaper Genie at one.

So if you’re moving in August… does that mean you got the dream apartment? I hope so!
