Frozen

Apparently Washington DC does get snow. In fact, the snow was so great that people were sure school must be cancelled. I found this somewhat surprising as there was less than 1/8 of an inch in the deepest spots. Crazy, crazy world.

It was freaking cold, though. I subbed for an ESL teacher who has a trailer classroom. They didn’t leave the heat on last night, so there was frost coming out of my mouth. I was literally teaching with my coat and gloves on. Brrrrrrrr! For the curious, it was 12F when we got up this morning.

But enough of this weather talk! I know talking about the weather is just about the most boring blog fodder of all time so I really should restrain myself.

Should I talk about the lack of windshield scrapers instead? Apparently they are such a treasured item that you can’t buy them at the mall or at the grocery store. Not that I expected to find them at the grocery store, but I did have high hopes for Sears and CVS. I was in no mood to drive out to Wal-Mart or Target for one little item, so I guess I’ll have to just pollute the environment with a long car warm up until I get a chance to go out there. You’d think that living in a city would mean you can find everything you need really handily. That is not the case. Yes, we can find everything we want and many, many, many things that we don’t want and will never want, but the stores I like (Target and Jo-Ann’s) are so far out of the way that I have to plan a special trip just to go to them. And you have to pay for parking at the Target that’s on the way to Jo-Ann’s. Can you believe that?

The quest for the scraper was so unsuccessful and cold that I decided I needed to make something warm and comforting for dinner–potato soup! I’ve never made potato soup before, but I hit the motherlode when I did a search over at allrecipes.com. I would post a link to the recipe, but frankly I’m embarrassed about just how unhealthy it was. Can we say heavenly? I have never had such good soup in my entire freakin’ life. I would make it every single day if I couldn’t actually feel it clogging up my poor little arteries. I think I have a whole new fat lump just from the soup. It was almost an orgasmic soup experience.

I logged on to see if you posted the cookie recipe only to be hankering for potato soup! Couldn’t you please provide the link for a starving pregnant woman who craves potatoes in every form? After all, it couldn’t be worse than french (no, I won’t call them “freedom”) fries.
