Wonderful Fabulous Day

Mosaic Minds is finished and up! Thank goodness! I cut it way too close this time, but I think my last minute article turned out to be my best. I did a feature on one of my favorite bloggers–Tracy. I’m pleased to be able to give her some kudos for the good work she does.

I finished my Nano word count today at school. That was a huge relief. I don’t know if I will do Nano again. Twice was more than enough, I think. I didn’t have much fun with it this year.

School was excellent today. The kids were great, the teacher left organized, appropriate lesson plans, and I got to “dance.” It was way too hot to be dancing, but I like the activeness of dancing with kindergartners.

I will say the librarian at this particular school needs to be fired. If I ever saw her treat my child the way she was treating the students today I would throw the biggest hissy fit you’ve ever seen a mama throw. I can understand discipline. In fact, I’ve come to understand that in the over all scheme of things I was a pretty danged up tight teacher. This woman was down right frightening. I was in the library for my prep period and watched her interact with two different classes. She didn’t speak to them. She just yelled at them and made the kids feel stupid if they didn’t understand the assignment. If they would talk AT ALL she would grab a big encyclopedia and slam it in front of them and yell like a drill sergeant. Not pretty at all. I can understand being frustrated when the kids don’t understand a simple assignment, but it would probably help if she as least explained once! People like her should not be working with children and they should not be in a library setting. Aren’t librarians supposed to want to spread the joy of books? There was no joy in that library. Every ounce of joy was sucked out of it. I was angry for those poor kids.

Other than that, though, it seems to be a great school. The staff is a really nice mix of older and younger, which seems to really help a lot. There are experienced leaders and youthful energy–very important in my mind. I’ll be there again tomorrow and am looking forward to it. I just hope I can get some sleep tonight! At least the heart burn is gone. It went away after eating some yogurt last night. I think I better get back into the yogurt habit. I’d somehow fallen out of it, but it is really good for my belly I think.

And now bed. And then maybe I can relax tomorrow. That would be a miracle.
