Slowly Civilized

This apartment is almost starting to feel civilized. I cleared out the last of the boxes and only ended up with four that I totally didn’t know what to do with. Sticking them in the closest seemed like a nice short term solution, though I think I may end up throwing away all my cheapie candles that I used to love so much. They used to look so nice, but something happened to them and they seem so dollar storish that I don’t want them in my house.

I also hung up pictures, vacuumed, cleaned and am really starting to get things in good shape! Now, if I only had a freakin’ car I could use I could go to Target and buy some baskets to store my craft stuff! The magic bolt is still being manufactured by the wizards of Mordor so we don’t have it. Tomorrow the Fellowship should take to their horses, throw on their invisible capes and attempt to deliver the bolt. I expect we’ll have our car back before we have it all paid off. Maybe that’s a vain hope.

We did get the elliptical tonight, even though the delivery was an hour late and then it took about an hour to assemble. Poor Mike was having a hard time sliding the rods into the holes even though we made sure they were properly lubricated. We got it done so late that I didn’t even do a workout! Tomorrow though. . . tomorrow is the first day of my new fitness regime. You know what makes me happy? I’m going to be able to exercise clothes-free! You just can’t do that at a gym. Of course, I’ll still need a bra and underwear, but no more fighting with a hot shirt and sweaty pants that crawl up my thighs! We’re talking excitement now.

I don’t think I ever mentioned the Most Excellent News In A Long Time (as opposed to The Most Excellent News EVER). My sister’s [insert really long string of expletives] boyfriend is in jail!!!! And he’s expected to be there for at least four years!!!!!

Now that Lexie is back in Oregon he’s been hovering around, playing Dodge the Cop. It finally caught up with him last weekend. Do you want the whole story or the abbreviated version? Since I like to ramble I think you’ll get the long version.

Last Saturday he showed up at my parent’s house to talk to Lexie or something. My dad came out and they ended up getting into a knock-down-drag-out fight. If my dad wasn’t so broken down he would have totally kicked his ass. As it was, my mom called 911, then my sister jumped into the fight, then my mom jumped into the fight, then the sirens started wailing and the [expletive] ran away. My sister grabbed the baby and announced that my mom would never see her grandchild again and went over to Grandma’s. Granny, of course, was more than happy to help with the enabling. What a circus. How do I belong to such a family?

The next day [expletive] got picked up for drunk driving. Yes!!!! My mom called the DA and found out he is wanted on several charges all around the state, DUIIs up in Portland, racketeering over on the coast, assault in Klamath, and on and on and on. Worst case scenario, he’s out in four years. Best case scenario he’s out a lot, lot later. Hopefully Lexie will put him behind her and get on with her life. That would be easy if my freakin’ Grandma would butt out and quit helping the [expletive] contact her. Why why why is she so stupid? I should be nice because we just found out she has hardening of the arteries in her brain and is perfectly set up for a catastrophic stroke, but she still makes my blood boil.

Braxton was fussy the whole time Lexie was staying with Granny, so finally she decided to move back in with Mom and Dad. I’m not surprised. Mom and Dad both helped with the baby a lot–holding him, feeding him, changing him. He is too heavy for my Grandma to hold and she really shouldn’t be holding him anyway.

I need to find a new family to adopt. I don’t want any part of that mess, yet I can’t help but get emotionally involved.

I guess I better go help Mike make the bed now since it’s his bed time.

oh Carrie… I’m so sorry. Maybe that’s why you turned out so good, to balance things out. I’m so glad Mike is taking care of you. You deserve him.
