I’m an aunt!
My sister finally had her baby about 20 minutes ago. I guess 22 hours of labor isn’t that bad for an induction. The baby is healthy and my sister is fine. She sounds pretty feisty at the moment. She was saying she would have to call security to remove my mom so she would get a chance to hold her own baby.
I don’t have too many specifics yet. He’s a boy and his name is Braxton Lee. He has lots of dark hair and pale blond eyebrows. No word on the weight or length yet.
My sister is the biggest wimp in the world, but she said the whole experience wasn’t nearly as bad as she thought it would be. That’s encouraging. She was pretty grossed out by the placenta, but that does sound pretty gross. Her stupid boyfriend didn’t even show up for the birth. I hope that gives her a clue about the type of father he will be.
I can’t wait to get down there in a couple of weeks and hold my little nephew! I want to see a picture now!

I have to say that for me, labour was the most empowering experience. I felt so ‘earthy’ and strong, so in-tune with my womanhood. (Sounds like a hippie, don’t it?)
The placenta isn’t that gross. After my daughter was born, the midwife gave everyone a ‘tour’ of the placenta. It was totally cool. Okay, it is a bit gross but not as gross as those cultures that eat it (there is a placenta lasagna recipe out there) or leave it attached until the belly button falls off. Blech!
I have more gross stories but I’m saving them up for dinner…
