Job Interview
I’ve got an interview tomorrow at 9:30 in the morning. I suppose this means I’m going to have to go buy some nylons and a pair of dress shoes. But here’s the quandary: I was talking to one of my teacher friends yesterday and she said the current sub rate is $130/day. If I take this job I’ll be getting $54/day. HUGE difference. Even if I didn’t work for a month, I’d still be making up for it in the end. I think I better call the TSPC today and find out what I can about these papers I need to send in.
Of course, there are some good points in having a regular job. I would know exactly what I was doing every day. I wouldn’t be tied to my phone in the evening, just waiting for the call. I wouldn’t have panicked calls 10 minutes before school starts asking me if I can make it in. I wouldn’t have to worry about transportation since it is only 1 mile from the house (when subbing I can be sent as far away as an hour of out town if I work for the county and the county sub caller can get pissy with you if you refuse to go out and then not call you on jobs in town).
I don’t know. This seems like the easier thing to do even though the money’s not great. Of course, I’m assuming I’ll get the job. I might not even get the job and then the decision will be made for me. But I always get the jobs I apply for. Except the time I applied for a job at Burger King when I was home from college for the summer and they told me I was overqualified. That was stupid. Oh, and of course when I started out teaching I did several interviews and didn’t get the jobs. But other than that, I always get the jobs I apply for. I’m way overqualified for this job, actually, but I don’t think they mind in this case. The world of education is very different than the world of business. They’ll most likely count their blessings if they get me, since it is extremely difficult to get qualified people into these positions since the pay is crap.
So that’s what’s on my mind today. Plus I need to be writing writing writing. So much to do, so little time. Ok, so I have over 2 weeks. That’s not so little time. I’m such a procrastinator that I’ll probably do it all the day before the deadline. I hate that about myself.
Now it’s off to steam clean more of the carpet in here. They make it look so easy on the commercials, but it’s exhausting work. I think I pulled a muscle in my arm. Evil, evil steam cleaning machine.
