Randomness

Before we get started here, I better mention that I’m not pregnant. I meant to say that last night but it totally slipped my mind. I was just referring to my hypothetical baby a couple of posts back, not a real one. Maybe one day, but probably not soon. We’d actually have to have some alone time once in a while to accomplish that.

Today has been an exercise in futility. I got up and decided I was going to do my old Abs of Steel 2000 tape because I was fairly sore from water aerobics. Mike thought that didn’t make any sense, but it made perfect sense to me. I went to steal my dad’s VCR, which he never uses, but he told me there was a brand new VCR out in the garage. I went out there, and low and behold, there was a very dirty but essentially new VCR out there (we have all kinds of weird things around here from my dad’s old dead roommate). After much running around and changing cables, I had the sucker working and was ready to crunch along with Tammi Lee. But it was not meant to be. The new VCR was hungry and ate my tape before I could do a single kick-ball-chain. By that point I was so psyched out exercising I decided I should just go and buy a DVD and get our DVD player set up. So off I went to Wal-Mart, completely un-showered and grimy. I found one DVD that had the words cardio and aerobic on it, I found a very cute pair of pajama shorts that could easily double as workout shorts for a mere five bucks and I found a sports bra. I was ready to transform into a hip, young aerobocizing fool.

But the DVD player wouldn’t work on the old TV. Then it wouldn’t work on the new TV. After much cursing and fighting, we figured out we just had to turn the channel to 00 and it would work, but by that time I’d been up for three hours and was getting hungry. Nothing would stop me, though, so I shoved Kathy Smith into the loading tray and begged her to work my body.

Oh boy, did she work it!

I think I got the wrong type of DVD. It’s beyond any cardio I’ve ever done. Basically, it takes pieces of all her tapes and let’s you build your own workout. I picked four section: low/high/low/high. Unfortunately there was no warm up that I could discover and the “low” was only low for people who are fitness maniacs. I could only do 25 minutes before completely collapsing. Maybe I can do thirty tomorrow. I really don’t like the disjointed way the segments fit together though.

Tonight we went shopping for a different exercise DVD at a different place, but apparently aerobics are out and pilates and strength training is in. I don’t want to do pilate. I don’t want to do strength training (my dad has a really nice weight machine thing that I can use for strength training). I want to do straight up aerobics. Is that so wrong?

I think I do things backwards when it comes to fitness fads. I did low carb before it was popular. There were no product options for me at that time, which was probably a good thing. No low-carb milk, beer, ice cream, brownies, Burger King platters–I just had to eat normal food with no bread. Personally, I’ve come to the conclusion that low-carb is fairly unhealthy overall even if you can lose weight (the weight loss is just about fewer calories anyway) and I sure don’t want to be eating a lot of artificial sweeteners so I’m glad I had the wrong timing there. I’m quite content with my low-fat diet. I feel like I haven’t been doing very good lately, but actually I’ve lost weight since moving back here. I think it’s all the cleaning I’ve been doing.

That about sums up my day. Thrilling, isn’t it? I did get some sweet, blessed relief from the scratchy throat and stuffed up nose that’s been plaguing me since I moved in over here. I got some allergy pills and they fixed me right up. I hate being dependent on pills, but it’s better than sneezing every three seconds. And now maybe Mike won’t have to learn to do a tracheotomy. I’ve been rather concerned about that, since these allergies seem to get worse and worse every day.

And now I want to go take a hot, hot soak. Too bad I am still not convinced the bath tub is clean enough to take a bath in. It probably is since we scrubbed it out really good and have been showering in it for over a week, but I have a mental block. Maybe if I scrub it out one more time I can get over my mental block. It would be nice to be warm.

I love aerobics! I don’t see anyhting wrong with them. I don’t even know what pilates is. I’ve hear dof it, but have yet to actually figure out what it is. I miss my Tae-bo tape from back home. *sigh* Billy Blanks’ workout was so good to me…

Anyway, I think aerobics are best. There has got to be something out there you can find! For the love of god….
