Merry Christmas!
We had a great Christmas day up here at the North Pole. We even spotted Santa last night, complete with a reindeer. Honestly. Authentic Santas and reindeer are one of the perks of living up here. Every year there’s several ads in the classifieds and you can call and have Santa come right to your home. Sometimes he brings a few deer, sometimes he arrives via dog sled, sometimes it’s just him and a horse. Annica’s neighbors hired a Santa with a single deer. We didn’t actually go watch or anything, but we spotted him out the window.
It was kind of strange to hang around with non-family during Christmas Eve, but it was totally fun to see the ecstatic five year old opening all her presents. I thought she was going to explode with joy when it was finally time to start opening them. I thought there was going to be a fight because Annica treats the younger girl like a red-headed step-child and her little pile of presents was pathetic. The older girl literally had double of what the little one had. Even Annica’s own mother asked her what the deal was and Annica acted embarrassed and worried and said she didn’t realize she had been so unequal. She got off easy this year since Sophia is still a bit to young to count and the piles were on totally separate sides of the room. She won’t be able to pull that next year. Hopefully she learned her lesson, though. This isn’t the first time I’ve noticed Sophia getting the raw end of the deal. She’s a sweet, fun, personable little girl and Annica just complains about her and says she’s a total brat. Alva, on the other hand, was a total devil child when she was Sophia’s age (thankfully she’s grown out of it and is nice now) but Annica always just thought she was the sweetest thing ever. It’s weird.
Christmas day itself was fun. We opened our presents (three country CDs for me, Swedish books, a CD and big orange monster slippers for Mike) and started cooking Christmas dinner. I totally nailed the turkey this time around and totally ruined the dressing. I wish my granny dear would teach me to make the dressing but she simply won’t do it. I think she gets really angry and jealous when I cook.
Annica and family came over and we ate until we were stuffed. That about sums up the evening. It was very relaxed and fun. I feel kind of bad for being so happy away from my family, but I’ll be seeing them in eight days so they surely can’t begrudge me the best Christmas ever.
And now I have to get back to my newest obsession. Mike and I have totally been fighting over the computer today, all because of a little yahoo game called Pop and Drop or something like that. Very, very addictive. Of course, the boy has gotten farther than me. I shouldn’t have showed it to him. He always beats me no matter what the game is.
One more note: I’m so glad Mike got me the newest Toby Keith CD! I had determined I wasn’t going to buy it because Toby Keith is such an asshole bastard jerk, but I hadn’t mentioned that to Mike. Now I get to listen to it without feeling that I personally contributed to the man’s music empire. Actually, I didn’t know what to expect. His last CD was full of anger and some of the songs were downright embarrassing, but this one is really mellow and relaxed. It even has a Christian song on it. At least I think it’s a Christian song. I can’t decide if he’s making fun of Jesus or being sincere. It’s a little hard to think he’s sincere when he has a song about smoking weed with Willie on the same CD.
Hmmmm. . . Maybe I should call my dad and wish him a merry Christmas. I’ve talked to everyone else.

Toby Keith is hot hot hoooooooooooooot. *yummy* And he can sing :D
Poor little Sophia. :( At least next year you won’t have to see her being treated unfairly. I never understand how a parent can overly favour one child and the other child gets diddly!
