If this is what's going on, a preg test probably won't come up positive. I'd investigate this possibility further. As far as the knitting thing goes - are the needles you're using quite sharp? I've been knitting for years and I bought a set of casein needles and the tips caused so much pain. My SIL gave me some stick-on plastic things for quilting - but they're awesome for knitting.
